Alright, I have the concept established for my primary character, but I need some people to bounce a few random things off of for coming up with things. As my usual source seems to encourage oversimplifying things (Hah), I was hoping to get some help here.

First off I have Rei, a Spring Child Healer, as my character. She grew up as a secluded child and loves drawing.

But in all fact, that's a lie, the character's real name is Diei, and he's a changeling chameleon. He grew up in an orphanage, but has some skill in manipulating people. He travels with his best friend Leodran, and has recently acquired this cohort, just prior to meeting the current adventuring party.
(If you want *More* information, this is the complete history as I have it so far)
Rei Muse – Spring Child (Half-elf/Dryad crossbreed) Healer

When asked about her past:
(Spoken in a shaky voice)
“If, if you really want to know. Where do I start…? I-I’m an orphan. I … never knew my parents. As far back as I remember I had to beg to survive. I’ve always been a little weak *cough*. When I was five, the headmistress of the orphanage took pity on me and took me in. I was lucky, not many children were admitted. Most sick children were left to die in the streets.”

(She then goes quiet for a moment, a look of sadness in her eyes)
“I spent most of my life in my room, praying and drawing. The other children … were afraid of me because I was different. … Except for Leo. We became friends. By accident, really. It was nice having someone to talk to who wouldn’t judge me. Once he told me about his arms he … gave me the courage to overcome my illness. Since the children didn’t want me, I tried to go out to the market and be friends with the adults.”

(With a soft sigh, a warm smile blossoms on her lips)
“From them, I learned that people are strange. I worked for a few years, selling my artwork. I started getting really good at it too! But the merchant who always bought my drawings ….”

(Shivering, she wraps her arms around herself protectively and goes silent)
(Almost a minute goes by, before she speaks again, more quietly, brushing a tear away)
“I almost never saw Leo, maybe once a month. But he showed up and saved me. I … want to draw. To see new places and things, and make it so others who aren’t so lucky can experience them too. That… that’s why I’m travelling.”

~Primarily, her story is to make people feel bad about asking her, and shut up about further inquiries :P~

Diei En’Dius – Changeling Chameleon

Diei was the bastard child of a human noblewoman, with latent doppelganger blood. She was captured and raped repeatedly by a demi-human during a diplomatic visit. As she had been broken beyond madness, she returned to her home, but was refused entry to her estate, since no one recognized her. She quietly raised her child with several others in the slums.

Diei grew up mostly in the marketplace. Not as a normal child, but by taking advantage of his sharp mind, and mixed heritage. He managed to con enough money out of the entire merchant quarter to support himself, and his ‘family’. At age six, he returned home after a particularly good haul (an expensive art book, some steaming lamb soup and a pair of bracelets for his mother. They were pretty, wrought silver, and hid ‘continual flames’ within them). He witnessed a highly skilled swordsman murder his family. Hired by his mother’s relatives, they had heard she had been ‘tainted’ in ‘wild lands’ and thought it would be ‘merciful’ to ‘put her out of her misery’.

Fleeing the scene, he assumed his favourite form, ‘Rei’ and wandered into the Lost Souls Orphanage like a lost puppy. He added himself to the list of residents when nobody was looking, and took one of the empty rooms as his own. From there, he lived much the same way, but slowly came to realize that he lost his family only because they had stayed the same, and stagnated until they were killed for it. From then on, Diei silently vowed to keep his talents as free-flowing as his form. Life continued much as before, but took up studying the art of drawing, as well as studying any and every book he could get his hands on.

When he was 11, he noticed a newcomer, and asked about him. Apparently all they knew was that his name was Leodran, and his parents had been brutally murdered. A week later, he noticed the little shadow had seen him shift forms in an alley. Torn, he was tempted to kill the young boy in his sleep, so he crept into the child’s room in the dead of night. Realizing how much they had in common, he simply didn’t have the heart to kill him. The next morning, he offered the tiny child his room, where he would be safe from the sneers and jeers of his peers. Slowly, they became friends, got along fairly well and grew closer, though they hardly even spoke to one another. On his 15th birthday, Leo gave him a beautiful set of clothing as a gift, and vanished suddenly that evening. After a week, Diei fell into a deep depression.

He decided to try romance, and let love soothe the emptiness in his heart from losing his adopted brother, as he had lost his family before. Unfortunately, the masters of Lost Souls threw him out, having caught him kissing another girl as Rei. He schemed himself a place to stay and supported himself with his chosen craft. Eventually, Leo’s gift soaked up some of the magic of his shape change, becoming in fluid in form as he.

Several weeks ago, he finished a commission of artwork to his most faithful buyer, a half-orc merchant by the name of Grazz MacSlooth. The orc cared little about the art, instead obsessing over Rei in every way (She was the subject of his drawing as well). He decided that now was the time to ‘make her his’, and made a move.

Diei was in shock, and too stunned to react or fight back as the orc pinned ‘her’ down with lust in his eyes. He prayed that it would be over quickly, and that he would escape with his life, calling out a silent prayer to the uncaring gods who had allowed him and his blood to suffer so much in the past.

Fortunately, this time fate smiled upon him. He heard a familiar whisper of steel and the merchant collapsed with a gurgle into a puddle of his own blood. The cold eyes of a killer greeted him from over the corpse. With a faint hint of a smile cracking through his otherwise grim demeanour, Leo shook his head at his friend. The two of them raided the merchant’s store for anything and everything that could be useful to them, before setting out.

He currently travels as Rei, though he has no problems with adopting other identities if it is convenient (And he won’t get caught).
Character:
TN Male Changeling, Age 22
(Changeling Rogue 1/ Cloistered Cleric 4/ Chameleon 4)
Friend:
CN Male Human, Age 17
Swordsage 9

Cohort:
<Ali> Female <Race>, Age <30
Specialist Wizard 7 (Abjurer/Transmuter. Barred schools Necromancy and Enchantment)

I was thinking of making her the girl he was kicked out of the orphanage for, years back (About 7 now) So far the backstory on her was that her father was a powerful Necromancer/Enchanter who tutored her to be his heir. He had a way with weaving the magic of lies into every word, and she learned the power of language at a young age. She took to everything opposed to him, refusing anything to do with his chosen specialties. Because of this, and her constant verbal rebellion, he slit her throat and just before she would have died, healed it. This left a rather heinous scar, both physical and emotional, making her almost mute. (This is to explain why she never talks to the party. We'll say she goes into a light trance when spell casting, the arcane words flowing on their own.)
Diei saved her at a young age, without knowing, and Leo killed her father while training with his uncle (Elf, human, it's funny, coup-de-craces treat them all the same...).
She travels with him, mostly for feeling indebted to the two of them, but desperately wanting to build people up instead of destroying them. She would be a non-evil alignment, but not CG or LG.

WHEW! Alright everyone, please be gentle. This is my first time (requesting on these boards).

Sounds good.

A question: How do you play 3 people at the same time? Or rather, 4? There is a changeling, there are the different personalities of the changeling, then there is the friend, and now a cohort... (shouldn't the friend rather be a cohort?)

How do you play out interactions between these? Does your DM sometimes take a part?

What about the rest of your gaming group's characters? Does the character have any connection to them or was he adventuring alone for 9 levels?

Sorry, I'm just curious.
