| Azias07-25-04, 09:00 AM | For my next character I was considering some sort of shifter (level 6) - I'm still playing 3.0 and wanted to know what others would think of a certain character quirk. The character's body was ravaged by a horrible disease (eg leprasy) and his base form is covered in bandages. He escaped from this horrible existence by training his mind in the art of magic. Basically druidic training - the abilities suit the character best in my opinion, so what does everyone think, any opinions or ideas that could be added? Oh, and suggestions on the disease would be nice, I don't want it to be contagious though... |

Druid would be a good class choice. Their solitary nature is just what you'd expect. The animals don't tend to shy away from people with problems either. Other options might be ranger or monk. I like to think of monk orders being the kind of place that would welcome a tortured soul and help he find "inner beauty." As far what disease - I'd just make one up. Think up some odd name. Its more exotic that our diseases. Plague of the Rose, for example. Final quirk: Your party mates never see under the bandages for a long time. If they ever do, have the deformity be shockingly minor, but you character is still fixated on it. They won't understand what the big deal is, but your character still insists on wearing the bandages. |

| Nature-boy07-27-04, 06:51 PM | That's a great idea. Perhaps sorcerer with a focus on transmutation spells would work as well. I would say Sor b/c it's more natural and thus training the mind wouldn't require many books. Once you get higher in levels, Sor gets some wicked shape changing spells. Even at low levels, you can't go wrong-- alter self? Also, don't know if you've seen this, but it may help if your DM will allow it: Ultimate Sorcerer (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?threadid=174004) Check out the Shapeshifter Bloodline; they get even uglier as they develop more levels. |

Not because you dis-like, but becuase you'll die. This can be overcome by bandages and the like (Lepracy is good). One more thing... did he get it from a person or an armodillo? :D It would probably be best that his druidic training helped him overcome the further effects of his disease (If that wasn't already implied). Cause if I was a PC and found out one of my party members was a leper... I'd banish him(Not to be mean, but for safety). |
| Baator the dark08-17-04, 12:55 PM | Well if its still not too late for suggestions I have a few if you're interested. I would go with a made up disease if I were you, then you could have all kinds of cool effects. Oh and by the way leprosy is not contagious. The other problem I see is the prevalence of cure spells, in fact druids can cast remove disease at later levels I believe. So why wouldn't he simply cast it on himself and be rid of the disease. I would think that if you made up a disease you could make it more tenacious and resistant to curing than the normal "mundane" diseases. |
