Drawing up a character, thought i would run my ideas by ya. basically, two (well, okay technically 3 but) brothers forced into the travelling mercenary role (adventuring) because of the events described below. the first brother adventures until his death, which i anticipate in a few levels, then the other brother goes out to keep their assailants guessing. that's it, here we go...

-As I stood over them, the pain and sadness began again. Damn nightmares started when I found out who these bastiches were, hadn’t had the chance to take in what this meant until now.

This hadn’t been the worst assignment I had taken, nor was it particularly difficult. It had never crossed my mind to avoid completing this mission. The cause was just and the need great enough, though Redcloud hated their soldiers to have a morality of their own. Redcloud knew I was good enough, so they overlooked it most of the time when I refused assignments based in spite or bloodlust. That’s why they assigned this to me; Redcloud knew I’d do it cheaper than most. But this? They couldn’t have known, could they?

…

My earliest memories are of our family travels to Korma so mom and dad could watch the games. I hated gladiators myself, found the whole thing boring. So did my big brother, but then again he just hated violence altogether no matter the reason. Heh, he did seem to take to some of the female gladiators though.

The parents didn’t watch for enjoyment so much as a learning tool. As travelers of Halmyr and missionaries of his “truth”, it was their life quest to learn, understand, and utilize the arts of warfare and combat tactics. I swear we were the only ones at the games who never cheered. I usually just ate and tried picking everyone’s pockets until we were done. Always traveling, we must of witnessed hundreds of skirmishes, gladiator challenges, and wars. Hated it all, but I did love my family and had fun with them wherever we went. How the hell did it go so wrong?

…

“Easy assignment” they said. Bastiches. I can’t go back, not now. Incomplete assignment means you’re dead, and Redcloud makes sure of it. Most of the time this is never an issue. No matter how vile the target, how grievous their transgressions, I feel sad. Sad for the ones they left beyond, the ones that didn’t know…the innocents. They all have friends and family. They feel pain. And I hate them all for it. I hate them for what they do and who they are. Most of all, I hate my parents. Bastiches. Shouldn’t happen like this.

…

My brother went off to study some such nonsense, leaving me at the mercy of Halmyr and his travelers. Woo. You see, even though Halmyr was a legendary strongman and warrior, he was never particularly aggressive. Some texts can be read as indicating he ever only fought one great battle. He just watched, learned, and adapted his thinking. The knowledge of war, locked away in a being smart enough not to use it. That one battle, as he defended the helpless in a time of great darkness, some don’t even think he really cared much. He just saw a great challenge and perhaps wanted to test his mettle in a worthy cause. I gotta admire him for that, even if his teachings had us running all over this damn part of existence.

…

They were at the inn, sleeping. Not armed, not watching or worried, not doing anything. As I stood watching them, I think they accepted this moment some time ago. When they saw Redcloud was in town perhaps? They had seen other Redcloud agents in town, and they knew I have…had…been with them for over a year.

I went to father first, not sure why. I woke him, whispered the horrid transgressions he was accused of, and asked if they were true. His eyes…damn him. I slit his throat. I took mother’s head off as she slept, owed her that much. Then I heard the baby. Looked just like his two older brothers. Bastiches, why didn’t Redcloud tell me. I knew then I was not having a good day.

…

My brother and an accomplice of mine from years ago found a safe place for them to hide with our youngest kin, but now I have more lives to protect from Redcloud. As much as I hate thinking it, maybe ol’ Halmyr had the right idea. I could hole up for awhile studying, then take out with some mercenaries. Keep moving, keep away from Redcloud, and I might just make a go of it. Or I might just die a horrible death as soon as I walk outta the temple. Bah, no fun in sitting on my ass all day, won’t let those bastiches ruin what short life I have left. -

...that's it for him, the second rough draft for brother number 2 will follow shortly, have a good day.-Lobo13
