| pbradley17907-05-07, 06:49 PM | My character, Vega, is a Paladin in a homebrew setting that includes a lot of pre-published campaigns. We've fought off an invasion by a psychotic Tiamat following dragon-man, killed Strahd in a pretty epic fight, and a great number of other things. Pretty soon we'sa gonna hit the demonweb pits. A while back, my character, a devout Paladin, fell deeply in love with Ireena, a major character in the game. And that love nearly burned him out, because she left him, and became a vampire. After the fight with Strahd, she was hurt and just managed to beg him for mercy, and he showed it. She travels with them now, having reactivated the daywalker thinger Strahd had, and is slowly building control over my character. Uh - Oh. She's evil. Of this I have no doubts as a player, since I know about a little thing called blown will saves, but every time my Paladin rolls to figure it out, he's either failed or I have to take her at her word. So he's just becoming paranoid... Uncertain of what to do about this, my character finally broke down and confessed to the fallen Paladin PC about his problems, and her response was that if the gods didn't believe in the two of them, they'd have stripped him of his powers. So he takes this as a go-ahead from the gods, since he's CRAZY devout, goes into it whole hog. The gods have blessed this union, and don't mind him carrying on with a vampire. And Ireena's smart enough to use her control over him to keep him doing good deeds that benefit her, like removing obstacles, etc. But the most recent adventure had us learn a disturbing fact: The Church of the Generic Good God that we belong to is actually corrupt through and through with undead-controlling priests, and some have been undead for centuries, ever since THEY learned that under our God, you can have your undead and eat it too. The God isn't watching anymore because of how the order turned from him, but some complicated metaphysic lets us keep using his domains. My character's shattered. God doesn't want him to be trying to redeem this girl, God just doesn't care about his relationship, and all those dark things that have been set upon him and unleashed from him aren't tests, just signs of a cold, uncaring God that isn't watching him. As a result of this adventure, we levelled, and now we've got some downtime to level up. I think I'm going to break from Paladin into a new class, different direction, but I'm not sure what I should do with him, now. Any advice would be appreciated. |
| warwinner07-06-07, 03:22 AM | blackguard - he gives in, his love for ireena and the uncaringness of his god are too much for him cleric - searching for a new god, one that will better suit him and get him out of his dilemma |
| CrimsonDeath07-06-07, 04:28 AM | Maybe Fighter, or Cavalier, or Wild Plains Outrider, or Marshal-- something that builds on the combat skills he's been developing, but in a more secular way. Or, if you want to completely abandon the Paladin way of life, you could go for Kensai or Death's Chosen so you can protect your bloodsucking girlfriend. |
| kheris07-06-07, 01:37 PM | Blackguard all the way, trade in those levels and go for retribution against your former brethren  |
| pbradley17907-07-07, 02:58 PM | The problem is, the DM's saying that Blackguard requires peaceful contact with an evil demon, and I haven't had that yet... |
| warwinner07-07-07, 03:05 PM | Tell ireena of your dark desires and maybe she'll help |
| pbradley17907-07-07, 07:08 PM | The official ruling is she can't: Ireena's got Fighter levels, but that's the limit of her power. I've decided to go with Death's Chosen. It seems like a neat class. |
| Alexeduardo07-10-07, 04:11 PM | Choose a very violent class like barbarian, fighter or pirate:D take Hatefull revenge on your former tutors and superiors either fall for the succubs you showed mercy for or just murder her (that would surely give you some good regretfull roleplaying) Start healing your wounds in strange and unnatural ways, you'll end up just as vader! |
