| MeleeMonster11-06-05, 02:43 PM | So I wrote in my Goliath Harpoon post that I want to have a dog - a great dane in fact - that is a big olde sweetheart ot him and him only. I don't really want her for combat puposes but I want her to be a big old thing but raised from a pup by the goialth so they have a very loving relationship. Right now though, I am caught up on how he would acquire the dog. I mean he could pick up the runt of the litter but I was hoping for somethign a littel more unique. it doesn't ahev to be extraordinary but unique is the key. For mechanical purposes I am thinking magebred and selected for size. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. |

Then you always had to track down the puppy that 'borrowed' it as a toy *** I had a puppy that stole my left boot everytime I came into the house. It got to the point that friends and other dog owners would laugh at the great difference between the two boots - the right looked good and the left was well abused but servicable ;) After a year I finally just gave her the left boot and bought a new pair |
| Morka11-07-05, 11:47 AM | Reminds me one of the Lethal Weapon, I think it's the 3rd. Mel Gibson is sneaking into some of the underdogs lair, and fall face to face with an evil looking dog. Through some comical mimics including him moan like a puppy and rolling on his back, he convinced the dog to let him pass. Later, a battle happen between the cops and the thugs, the cops being overwhelmed. They stole a pick-up truck to flee the place. At the last moment, Gibson whistle, and the dog get there running and jump into the pick-up truck to flee with them. What I mean is you could have a recurrent villain in this campaign who was breeding magebred dogs. He could have captured the goliath. Then the goliath was able to flee. But during this, he befriended one of the dog (the better of the bred), and the dog followed him. Then each time you meet this recurrent NPC, you could have him accuse the Goliath to have stolen the dog (wich is perhaps true), but the dog always come back to you, only angering the NPC even more. |

| Morka11-08-05, 10:39 AM | From a game playing standpoint - Morka's story is way better than mine - plus it gives your GM some fun too! Your story is a great quirk though, it could easily be added to my story. However, it would be funnier if it was the dwarven cleric's boot! That reminds me my own dog. In fact, it is my girlfriend's dog, a little Shi-Tzu. When he goes outside to relieve himself, she uses to give it a dog cookie. Before we lived together, I once had to keep the dog for one night. He went outside, and once back, began to beg for a cookie. The only cookies I had were Whippets, you know the big mashmallows with hard chocolate outside? The Whippet was too large for the Shi-Tzu mount, so the dog roll itself on it. His furr was full of mashmallow, and we had to give a bath to the poor little dog... |

| MistWolf11-08-05, 07:12 PM | You enter a tavern where a large man with a heavy black beard is drinking deep from a tankard and dicing with some rough men in a corner. With him a small pup with huge paws. Every time the man makes a bad roll, he kicks the pup, blaming it for his bad luck. You convince Blackbeard to dice for the pup and you win. He grunts, offering to buy the pup back. You decline. He accuses you of cheating. You reply "You are a man who gambled away a dog" and leave with your new friend |

| Arkonth11-08-05, 10:43 PM | While this is unrealistic for DnD, this reminds me of Haplo from the deathgate cycle. Essentially, Haplo is followed around by a dog that he can't get rid of and that appears to be immortal. Later he learns it was a manifestation of his own soul. |
| MeleeMonster11-09-05, 10:11 AM | Interesting concept but my soul in dog form I do think I will go. Really I ammost interested in this for flavor sake though. |
| Tegemea11-11-05, 11:24 AM | This big ol' sweetie was bought/bred by an ill-tempered lord who fancies himself a huntsman and wants some big dogs around. He wants big everything around.. something about compensating. Anyway, the dog gets very large, very quickly, and the trainers he has hired cannot get the animal to behave. The dog is intelligent and loving and happy, but has too much puppy spunk. Meanwhile, the lord has a problem with monster X raiding some peasant farms he is supposed to be in control of. A goliath warrior heading back home through the area is wrangled with promise of good pay into assisting with the problem. Indeed, monster X is slain, but Lord Ill-Tempered pays only a portion of the promised amount, and adds the dog as payment to 'make up the difference'. The warrior, too honorable to resort to violence with the situation, and partially because the dog is really kind of cute, agrees and heads home. Now he knows it is ridiculous to think of keeping the huge pup, but maybe someone else will be interested ... and there's your dog. but that story sort of sucked. how about ... A group of adventurers has slain a mighty dragon in its lair, but were surprised by the presence of newly-hatched wyrmlings. One of the dangerous infants escaped the combat and is moving about on its own. The psychological trauma to the dragonet is intense enough that it wants to find a replacement littermate to feel safe. With no more baby dragons around, though, the best the little beast can find is a large dog. The wyrmling dognaps the Great Dane from its home, and the unlikely pair form fast friends, the little dragon soon coming to realize that this is a very strange situation, but truly enjoying the company. When they venture back towards the wymling's mountain home, a company of goliaths spots the dragon and dispatches it, not noticing its companion until the deed is done. The dog, frightened and in dangerous territory, latches immediately upon a friendly-looking face ... and there's your dog again. |
| MeleeMonster11-11-05, 03:03 PM | Another couple of interesting ideas, I am like the varience of ideas here and am thinking about how I can gel a few of them together. I appreciate these guys let's keep them coming. |
