| Kuraito01-06-06, 03:35 AM | After reading about Warlocks in CA, I have wanted to play one for awhile. I am currently the 3rd person to play one. I am really stressing how warlocks are seen in society, I mean, when your looked at with more disdain then the most Infamous Necromancer (CAs words, not mine), thats gotta mess with your head. Hears what I got so far. Corinth was born to a normal family, in a normal town. He, however, was not normal. For aslong as he can remember, he has been plauged by nightmares, usually of strange, twisted creatures, who lived in a realm of pain. Being a child, he asked about his visions to his elders, as they frightned him. His visions were identified as "Demons" and the place as "Hell". There after he was ostracised by everyone, even his own family treated him with thinly veiled fear. His first display of power was at the age of 10. A local bully, Roy, who picked on him a great deal, assualted him one day, busting open his lip. In rage, his dark powers exploded from him, and he struck Roy down with his first eldritch blast. Roy survived, but from then on, he was not allowed back to the school or around other children. Roy, on the other hand, made a turn around. His brush with death caused him to mend his ways and become a holy man. This struck something within Corinth. He wondered, he suffered so much, maybe it wasn't without reason. Maybe, he suffered so others didn't have to. Thinking of himself as a sheild for others, a being who takes suffering upon himself so others don't have to, made his life bearable. As he got older and his powers grew, he realized he didn't just need to suffer to help others. He could turn the dark powers that caused his suffering against those that would harm others. Those like him. With this thought came another. Corinth realized that his curse marked him as clearly as a beacon. No matter how many people he helped, or how hard he tried to be good, they would never let a soul as dark as his into heaven. He would almost certainly go to hell. Again his world veiw helped him deal with that. After all, if his suffering stopped others from suffering, then wouldn't going to hell be GOOD? He would suffer forever, but in doing so, he would keep others safe. Finally, at the age of 14, he left home and begain traveling... Corinths traits - Corinth is an almost compulsive liar. He lies about everything, his name, where hes from, his powers, everything. He believes no one would ever except him if they knew his true nature and if to many people find out about him, he might find himself being hunted the evil he fights or the good he protects. - Corinth can be fatalistic, even suicidal. His only wish is to drag those like himself down to hell with him, kicking and screaming. The more evil he sends to hell before he goes himself, the better for the world. - Corinth is not a big fan of Rightous people (especially paladins). In his mind, they're to busy being "Noble" and persecuting him then trying to really do anything good. Hes sees they're unwilllingness to use any means necisary, even damning there own souls to hell to combat evil as cowardice. - His alighnment is CG, but hes not against using evil tactics. The Dead Walk is most likely one of his Invocations, so his alignment is actually CN. - How he got his power is a complete mystery, though hes willing to simply chalk it up to fate. It was meant to be. - Seeing corinth use invocations can be terrifying. His eyes roll back in his head and a dark, unearthly growl raises from his throat as his focuses his dark power. As you can tell, Corinth is just shy of being Insane. Also, his personality makes it seem difficult for him to fit into a party dynamic. Heres where things get messy. Deep down, corinth still desires to be accepted into a group. To be trusted and to be able to trust. This is the one thing that will drive him to stay with a party. Hopefully, by the time his lies fall apart, they will have been through enough for them to be willing to let him explain. Thats what I got so far. Thoughts, Questions, Comments? |
| Setherial01-06-06, 09:35 AM | Well in a way I dig him though I would say his alignment was CE although he will not think himself evil as he only wants to fight evil and defend the good. This in combination with his already messed up nature makes him a sitting duck for being manipulated. It would be pretty easy for an evil person to take this young man under his wing, befriend him but at the same time feed his paranoia, his dilusions. Turn him into a weapon to take out his enemies. Also from a psychological point of view I cannot fantom any child taking it upon himself to absorb pain so other may be free of it. It is not how the mind of a child works. The mind of a child is selffish, selfcentered because it still has to learn about what is wrong and what is right. This is why the first years are so important. If a child is in constant pain it will loath others for having it easier especially when his environment does not show understanding his situation. In your case he is feared and shun, this will have a deep inpact on his view of the world. He might for instance want to protect the helpless because they like him are castouts, stepped upon by those who think they are better. Also it would take years of guidence by someone who really means well for this child to get over his anger, his rage towards the wrong that has been done to him. Most likely people will abuse him and things will get worse. A character like this is an inspiration to play but very difficult to play as well. It will take a long time before he trusts the others (as a child like that will have issues with trusting people in general) and those others would have to have great patience. From my own experience players usually don't have patience with eachother and it gets worse the higher their level becomes. anyway good luck playing the little bastard :) |
| Kuraito01-06-06, 09:47 AM | Good points, but one thing about Corinth was when he was young, he begain to think about trying to find someone who would accept him. Even at that age, he knew that the only ones who would accept him for what he was were those like him. And those like him would ask him to cause the same pain and suffering he felt to other. Not without a sense of empathy, he turned from this path and placed himself stoicly on the side of good. I agree that this background almost always pushes people to be evil, but, thats what makes it interesting isn't it? Everything in his life has said "Be evil" but he has refused. Thats what really makes this guy special. As for the manipulation bit, well...he trys hard to be low profile, so its certainly possible that he would join up with a party before any Big Bads has him on there radars. |
| Purpledragonfire01-06-06, 10:46 AM | I'd consider having him with almost schizophrenia or multiple personalites having him flit from almost normal covering up his heritage and fitting in to a raving lunatic trying to kill the tavern owner for beating his servants. well maybe not that extreme... all the time. Also maybe have him flit between constant lies and rude brutal honesty as he lies to acomplish his goals and yet see lies as evil and so when not necessary to a goal being brutally honest. consider taking disguise (via the feat cosmopolitan?) and changing identity regularly to avoid detection by your foes and spread the legend of the lone shapeshifting anti-hero (ala classical spagetthi western). Anyway hope this helps liked the background keep up the good (evil) work |
