Hi. I'm about to start playing a character named Pewyn Peli, a CN Rgr2/Rog1 Human within the Forgotten realms campaign. I've written his history, and I'm pretty happy with it up until the end. Here's what I've concocted so far-

Pewyn was raised on the outskirts of the Wealdath Forest within Tethyr, in a
small mercenary village known as Thallum. It was a town mostly inhabited by the
relatives and progeny of the Guilded Gauntlet, and those wounded or vacationing
soldiers not currently campaigning with that company. His father was Braegen Peli,
chargemaster of the scouting brigade of the Gauntlet, and his mother was a woman
named Vanessi whom he had met and wed when the company passed through
the town of Myratma two decades ago. Pewyn was born with a brutally cleft pallet
and because of such grew up mostly peerless amongst the villagers' lack of
compassion for the weakness of deformity- even within his own house he was
tolerated only by Vanessi, Braegen being no more fond of him then anyone else.
His few companions were a small group of boys (mostly other sons of the scouting
company) that tolerated his presense in exchange for the right of ridicule; he
tolerated their insults in exchange for the right to consistantly best them in
everything they prided themselves in. Where they would hide, he would quickly
appear; where one of their arrows would land, three of his would strike. Pewyn,
who hated the rigid, militaristic lifestyle, found himself (through no intention
of his own) running more quickly through the woods as any other boy in the
village and just as fast as many of the seasoned scouts. In truth, he was disdainful
of the stealth the others louted so highly (even as he grew better and better at it),
and beyond the fun of out-foxing the would-be foxes he was openly derisive
of those traits.

He had recently been offered a place within the scouting party of the Guilded
Gauntlet when his mother died. He was twenty-two, three years younger then most
of the warriors within the company, but they grudgingly accepted his abilities in spite
of his appearance. He laughed at their offer. Several nights later his mother passed
away from a violent cough that had been building for months. Pewyn, realizing the
freedom he'd never invested upon, gathered his things and left the village in the
morning.

First of all, I don't like the name "Guilded Gauntlet" for the merc company, but I'm stumped to come up with something better. Any suggestions on a name for a group of mostly neutral mercenaries (about 200 members strong)?

Secondly, I don't like the second paragraph at all. His mom's death is bland and his reason for leaving is cliche, methinks (the mom part is cliche too *chuckle*). His chosen ranger-enemy is Rogues, if that offers any ideas, but does anyone have some good suggestions for something that might replace that last part I wrote? Oh, here's his appearance.

Most prominent is Pewyn's pronounced harelip and profound speech impediment.
He is stocky and stoop-shouldered and crowned with long, stringly locks of dark hair.
His face is sagging and gray, and his dull eyes rest atop heavy purple bags. His nose runs
constantly and he is prone to wiping it with the back of his wrist. He was raised amongst
a rural village aside a vast wilderness, and it shows- he is unwashed and has all the polite
grace and good manners of any average bumpkin. He is alert however, not at all slow or
witless, and both his eyes and his feet move quickly and firmly.

Thanks in advance for anything you may think of.

I had a mercenary company called the White Ravens in my campaign once. Their banner is a stylized white raven on a red background, or a black background. The colour of the background can go with the rank of the one wearing it.

If I understand well, Pewyn lives with his parents, even if his father is away most of the time? Is there anybody else in this house, brother or sister, grandparents, uncles?

I have an alternative reason for him leaving his village. His father never liked him very much, but he knew and respected his scout talents. His only deepest desire was to be proud of his son, despite his ugliness. So when Pewyn was old enough, his father asked him to join the mercenary company. Pewyn laught at the offer, thinking half wrongly that his father and the company were only needing his skills, and didn't like him for his person. His father was wounded by his son's reaction. Furious, he told him that he didn't want an ugly lazy boy in his house anymore. Also furious, Pewyn began to gather his possessions, and despite his mother protestations, he left the house and the small community.

This background allow you more roleplay in case the mercenary company or his mother needs Pewyn. He could eventually reconciliates with his father and join the company later, leading a scout gang (leadership?)

Morka: That's really good, mate. I'm going to work something around that. :) Thanks.
