| Shan_TheBabau_Burke05-22-07, 02:23 AM | I want to model a character after Courage because... Well, because it strikes me as amusing to have a character whose conversations are mostly made up of "Eeeeeeee!", "Auuuuggghhh!" and "Muriel!" I want a plain Rogue, Human, but I'm stuck there. I know he should have for a skill, Use Magic Device because Courage finds and uses all sorts of crazy talismans and wild things to ward of the evils that plague the farm. He will be the one that balks at everything, takes twice as long to get through a dungeon as anyone else because he pauses at every corner and uses a mirror (eeehhhh!) and after he is good and double sure that no one is there, carefully tiptoes around and begins the whole process again. In the end though, he will always come through, Courage always does. I think his alignment would be neutral or neutral good because his in it not just to help himself, but to help his family. Beyond that, I can't decide. He will likely be a solo character because it would be mean to force an adventuring party to deal with him day in and day out. Besides that, the whole point is he has to be brave because he's on his own. I haven't rolled stats for him either as I am not sure how to place them. This is a tiny baby character concept. Any suggestions? |

My rogue picked up some paranoia towards the end of his run (darn that DM and his traps). The DM loved the fact that I shouted once every minuet that I am searching for traps, the players... no so much. If you are capable of protraying the coward concept without that kind of annoyance, then by al means. An integral part of Courage however is Muriel. You do need some form of Damsel in Distress for you to go rescue. Someone in your backstory that was kidnapped perhaps? |
| BloodDragon05-22-07, 09:02 AM | Heretics! Heretics I Sayssss! Hang your heads in shame for not knowing one of the funnier animated series around! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Courage_The_Cowardly_Dog First thing that popped into my mind when you said rogue and “Courage” is the Carven feat from Champions of Ruin. Read it over, you’ll laugh, because it fits so nicely. Personal I’d say courage is Chaotic Good, though that doesn’t work with what I’m about to suggest: Class choices for Courage… Well Fortunes Friend from Complete Scoundrel fits the bill but without a spell casting class you’re putting half to class to waste. So why not: Rogue X / The Slayer of Domiel 2 + X / Fortunes Friend 5 (The Slayer of Domiel is from the Book of Exhalted Deeds) You’re a rogue. As long as you take carven and two-weapon fighting I think you’ll be good on saves and decent at damage… feats aren’t so flexible though. Use magic device is a class skill to all three classes. “Luck” feats glory to help you out of tight spots when that axe swings a little to close to your head. All that Charisma you (should) have to help your UDM skill is also added to your saving throws thank to “Divine Grace” from the Slayer of D class. After jumping out of the way of an oversized teekie head boulder that nearly crushed you, you can run over to your team mates freak out and try to explain what nearly happened… but you can’t because your character only speaks in “Eeeeepk!” and … metamorphs into things… some how… Changeling for a race? You must be lawful good for said classes to work. Wisdom of 14 helps with spells. Cha & Dex are your focus stats. High Reflex, luck rerolls, high Dex, and adding your Charisma to all saves you’ll be the prefect trap-springer and be able to walk away unharmed. ;) In addition you’re also an exalted character… perhaps it is the greatest divine prank the gods could have played on poor courage. I agree with Mosyali's statment as well. Find a female character to latch yourself onto and protect her with your life. Perhaps an Arch-enemy is attempting to do her harm ... a dread pirate? Kaptin Katz. |
| Mysteria05-22-07, 03:36 PM | Not all of us are American or British. ;) So it helps to specify what you're talking about. :) If I say I want to make a character based on "Löwenzahn" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%B6wenzahn) you're not going to understand either. :D (I guess that might be an arificer?) |
| Shan_TheBabau_Burke05-22-07, 07:25 PM | @Mysteria- He he! I did get all caught up in the concept and it never even occurred to me, (I am not the kind of person to whom things naturally occur, as a rule ;) ) that some may not know what I'm talking about. I hope that someday you get the chance to watch Courage the Cowardly Dog. It's one of the better cartoons aired in the last fifteen years. You must be prepared for overwhelming oddities and rampant silliness though. @BloodDragon- Oh yeah! Changeling! I never even considered that aspect of him. He does tend to get a bit... Over-descriptive of the monsters, doesn't he? Exalted? Yeah, that _is_ pretty hilarious. I don't have some of those books, but I think I could make do. Thanks for the input! |
