| Stormbrand04-08-07, 12:18 PM | Whatever you buy. Seriously. Choose what you deem appropriate. There should be a gp limit based on your level. If you are looking for ideas, that depends on how you want the fighter to act or what role. Front-line tank? Archer? Mobile combatant? |

I'll add however, that I imagine even standard Elf Fighters being equipped with light armor and of course, nothing less then masterwork bows as well as a curved Greatsword/Falchion like melee weapon similar to those used by the Elves in Lord of the Rings. Other options would be using a Longsword and a Shield, Rapier, or if you want something more exotic perhaps a Double Bladed Sword. Are you using the standard Elves or a subrace? High/Normal Elves dabble in swordplay as well as magic so you really do have quite a few options. Axes and polearms might be a bit out of place but Elven Spearfighters might be an interesting choice. |

The DEX bonus is less compatable with heavy armour, and the CON penalty is nasty for a front-line fighter. So to make your elf fighter fully effective, you need to put some thought into combat style. The equipment will fit around the character build. Lighter armour will play to your racial strengths, trusting in mobility. 1 - The Archer. - Does exactly what it says on the tin. Buy the best bow you can afford and enough arrows to match the output. If the bow is your primary weapon make sure you always set out with at least 100 arrows - Rapid Shot will get through them all pretty quick. Keep a rapier handy for when enemies get close. With the Weapon Finesse feat, you can focus on DEX without giving up your ability to defend yourself in melee. Start off with a chain shirt, but all the focus on DEX will need you to move to something lighter soon enough. Note, this works better with Ranger mixed in. My advice is take the first level in Ranger for all of the extra skill points, this should help you find good sniper positions as well. Remember your 5-foot step. Back away 5 feet before shooting for the round. May allow an extra round of firing before being charged, or simply steps away from Attacks of Opportunity. 2 - Skirmisher. - This tactic requires space to use. Main requirements are a reach weapon, light or medium armour, and spiked gauntlets. Combat Reflexes and Spring Attack are the main feats with this - your aim is to get foes to charge your, provoking attacks of opportunity for entering your reach. The spiked gauntlet deals with those who get too close without dropping your main weapon. |
