| EvilSanta01-11-05, 11:47 AM | First(ish) post... here goes I'm enhancing my current character, Door, from 3.0 to 3.5. She's an 8th level Psy_War and, well, not to be mercenary, but my DM has promised an XP bonus if I put it all here and get some input to flesh her out. Kind soul that he is, he's also giving me the option to play around with the character a little. Sort of a free psychic Reformation if you like. I've stolen bits from numerous sources, not least is the format, which i took from the Psionic Bounty hunter thread, since it helps my mind: Name: Isabo Door Race/ Gender/ Age: Probably Elan (homebrew, see backgroud) - Female - 25 Alignment: Undecided. Somewhere between CG and LN Religion: None Single Defining Class: Psychic Warrior Description: From immediate appearence little can be said about the woman calling herself Door. She wears a thick heavy trenchcoat with the collar turned up and a widebrimmed hat pulled all the way down. The shadows draw long around her indeed. In fact, you have only her word that she is human, for there is little else to go on, an exposed slender hand, snow white skin and a gliding, fluid style to her weapon use are the few tell tale signs. Then there are her eyes. Green flashes like far off summer lightning that pulse occasionally with incandescence, accompanied by the smell of orange blossom and, rarely, a distant hum that resonates behind the ears, like the build up of power before a storm. But of all the strangeness, it is her voice that is the most unnerving. Or voices, would be more appropriate. When she speaks, the accoustics of her clothes apprarently do something to the way she speaks, for often her once voice sounds like it is accompanied by many others, some in synch with her, some who start the words after and, even more worringly, those that finish her words before she does. Greatest Strength: To overcome every situation. Her people teach self reliance beyond all else. She despises those that rely on others - like the weak (or clerics) but understands that they need protecting wherever possible. Greatest Weakness: Her hatred of spellcasters, with the exception of sorcerors (she is yet to meet Bards or Druids). Lack of patience. . Traits and Mannerisms: Cold and aloof, Door spurns physical contact with anyone she comes across if she can help it. She allows no-one to come too close and she speaks only when she needs to. Background: Door, or Creed as she then was, arrived here on Toril by accident. In her own world, her people are a slave race caught in a great inter-planar war between the Gith and the insidious Mind Flayers. Used by both sides as breeding stock for expandible soldiers and slaves for countless generations, they have become an insular and morbid people without hope. However, the Gith were about to change all that. They experimented in trapping the spirits of slain Illithid inside living hosts, both as an attempt to imprison (and thereby reduce) the numbers of Illithid and to boost the powers of their foot soldiers. The experiment worked a little too well - the subjects began to manifest (pardon the pun) Psionic Talent. But not just simple powers, some grew powerfull indeed and the unthinkable happened: Rebellion. Led by the "experiments", now christened Librarians, the slaves rose up and drove both sides out of their plane. But there was to be no happy ending for the so-called Librarians They were outcasts, a reminder of the subjugation they have suffered and yet, and at the same time, the only hope for the defence of their realm. The Librarians seached for an end to this dreadful fate. In reading captured materials from both sides of the war, they learned of the Annulas and strove, above all things, to find it. This artifact of power would bring the santuary they craved or the death they deserved. Door was part of a team of Librarians that sort the artifact, but was ambushed by Githyanki on a recent mission. In the ensuing combat her mentor used a teleport power of some description to send her home for reinforcements. However, something went wrong and she ended up in Toril. She doesn't know why. Class Arrangement(s): Probably... :) Psychic Warrior 7, Psychic Weapon Master 1 Essential Feats: Dodge, Psi-Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, Weapon Focus (Glaive) Stand Still. (They change daily at the moment) Bonded Weapon: A Glaive. The handle seems simple enough, but the blade is made of green crystal that match Doors eyes, it too pulsates with power and a kind of knowing that seems to watch your every step. An unnerving weapon for an unnerving woman. It is never far from her hand/ Essential Powers: Inertial Armour: It is only when a blade finally makes its mark on Door that you realise the extent of her power. A flash of sparks, like metal on metal, errupt and seem to illuminate a suit of heavy looking armour. A wicked looking blow is turned much to the chargin of the attacker. Expansion: "How will you reach me up here, mortal?" No-one answers, save Door, who's whispers in that strange tongue of hers carry on some unfelt breeze. She starts to grow in violent bursts. "Like this," she says. Force Shield: The purple disk twists about her in perfect unison with her graceful steps. Never did a shield compliment a warriors combat so effortlessly or effectively as this one, formed of but a thought. Empathic Transfer, Hostile: "She's wounded," the Orc leader chuckled darkly, others joined in and circled the defeated looking warrior. Door held a blood stained hand to her shoulder and cursed "Now, now, no need to use such course language," the orc laughed again. Suddenly a dagger swept passed his head, and caught Door on hers, she almost screamed in pain. "That looked like it hurt," the Orc said to his band, "A lot." Door's eyes blazed then: "Like to know how much?" She said spat. A wave of energy errupted from her angulfing them all. The orc felt a cut suddenly burst open on his shoulder... Energy Adaption, Specified: Door hardly flinched at the Dragons breath errupted around her. "Curse you, mortal, is there anything you can't do?" The creature hissed. Door didn't reply Er... yes, well, I have some others, but dont know what. Possible Vigor or Hustle. Kind of irrelevant at the mo. Essential Equipment: Her glaive. A belt of crystal shards that chink like windchimes in the wind. She wears a ring of resistance +1, an an amulet of natural armour and boots of Skate, gifted to her. Everything else she makes or summons herself Signature Combat Maneuvers: Power Attack + Deep Impact + Spring Attack + Psychic Damage (from PWM) Door suddenly jumped forward at a speed that made those watching eyes' hurt. Her glaive haw-sawed down through the air, it's tip drawing sparks as if slicing throught he very matter of air itself and a noise, like fingers down a chalkboard, could be heard. The blade passed directly through the skin of the beast, much to it's suprise before solidifying somewhere in its heart... "But how?..." it managed before Door's own cry "Ia!" was heard - the weapon seemed to explode with energy that laced through the creature before earthing out on the stalagtites in the cave. It fell dead at her feet. Favourite Quotes Every time you look at me like that, remember that while you sleep I am reprogramming your mind to something more useful. No, I'm a librarian. Words have meaning. Names have power. Do you know what that means? It means, never Frack with a Librarian. Visual References/Influences: I imagine her race as the 'Strangers' from Dark City. If you've not seen it - shame on you! She shuns sunlight, human contact and is cold - emotionless. I also like the names - Mr Hand, Mr Book etc. very cool. I change her name every couple of levels. I like to think that Door is somehow slightly futureristic, perhaps over played in the fact that she wears a trenchoat? I imagine her Inertial Armour has having properties like the shadow ships from B5, but that's just me. Of course, the name Librarian isn't entirely original either. There you go... that's it. Would welcome comments, more so on background - particularly on her race, and the War |

Reading over your post reminds me a little of one of my favorite other games, Exalted. It's a White Wolf game, if you're not familiar with it. Maybe it's the signature move (a Combo, in Exalted), and the special effects inherent to the character's image (like her eyes and voice). I'd say Chaotic Good would work well, though I could see her played darker and more towards True Neutral. She's disciplined and apparently dutiful, but doesn't seem to see society or community as having a positive influence on people. Plus, she has a problem with impatience. It just strikes me as CG. Considering her racial history, she probably has a problem with those who seek domination over others. One thing that might make the character easier to play is to be more specific on her motivation. What does she live for? Is she pushing on with pure survival instinct? Does she remain hopeful about being reunited with her people, or is she just glad to have escaped at all? Does she place a lot of value on her own edification and psionic enlightenment? Is she a shell of brooding defensiveness which hides a deeply unhappy, even depressed, young woman, lost and confused about what path to follow? |
| EvilSanta01-12-05, 03:37 AM | Exalted... ah my DM game of choice. I mean .. er... well after D&D of course. Yes, I love Exalted and Door was built with a flavour of the fallen heroes, a bit of the taint of pride and froopy powers. I've not really given much thought to how she feels now. Perhaps she believes that she was sent to Toril for a reason? Perhaps she's looking for a way back (but not too hard) - at least here she can escape to a relatively quiet life... Mmm food for thought. Thanks |
| Vharuck01-15-05, 03:02 AM | She's independant in every sense of the word. CN. Hustle seems like a great power, since it fits the theme you get with Spring attack in her being very quick. I hope you'll snatch up Body Adjustment as soon as possible so you can heal yourself. |
