The Designated Rogue

08-12-04, 10:53 PM
Character Name: Veigue Dreamfall
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Race: Half-Elf
Future Class Progression: Rogue/Fighter/Dervish

His background is told in 1st person point of view. Basically tell me if it sucks or if i should do something different. I'm trying to get away from the idea that all Rogues are thieves. I haven't rolled up stats yet because I'm trying to get more into character detail and less into the mechanics of the game right now. This character will be starring in the new Eberron setting.

-----------

"Its been a few years since the tradegy in my home town befell upon me. A few very long years, where everyday has seemed like a eternity to me. I have, long since, been traveling with the Ebon Caravan. A entertainment vessel that visits every city it passes, providing entertainment to the citizens therein. The farther away from my home town the better is what always jets through my mind. I can never go back there, to that town of hateful humans. I write to my mother everyday in hopes that shall respond and tell me that she has left that horrible town. Somehow I know that will never happen though. Something binds her to that place. It may be the memories or the land but whatever it is, its keeping her there. I however can easily forget that place of discrimination. Everyone in that town has it in for elves ever since that town was first built. As far as the towns history goes, it is said that the first settlers were attacked by a band of Drow who killed most the men and raped the women. Since then, the remaining survivers put the entire elven race into one category of evil. It soon spread to the other races supposedly being just as evil, such as Gnomes and Halflings. It was decided that only humans may reside in the village, and anything "unhuman" was not allowed. What they meant as unhuman was anything different from themselves which automatically made me the tradegy."

"My mother was a traveling human gypsie who was apart of a caravan much like the one I'm in now, with many diverse peoples. She was part of a ancient tribe whos primary culture was the art of dancing. Her magical dance awed the crowds she entertained, eventually awing a elf I would come to call father. Never had my father seen a creature with such grace which far surpassed any elf woman he had seen in his time. They eventually ended up together, for my mother saw things in my father she had never seen in any mere man. They settled down in her home town. My father used magic to make himself more human like so they could live together in peace with the elf hating town. My father spent years trying to promote peace between humans and all other races and in those years, my parents had me. My father used the magic on me as well so I would not be noticed as a half-elf breed. Countless times my father tried to convince my mother to leave and make a place with him elsewhere in the world but my mother selfishly disapproved. She did not want me growing up without knowing my human family, the only family I would have. My father had no relatives on his side. I'm sure my mother regrets ever single day for not listening to my father then. Years past and I grew. My father and mother taught me everything they knew so I would grow to be strong someday. Between my fathers deadly art of striking vital points in the body and my mothers art of the dance I eventually grew to create a deadly style of my own. My parents taught me both human and elven culture, and taught me that everyone should live in harmony with one another. I can't say I still retain there lessons on harmony to this day.

"My father had went on a trip to promote the peace between races, and was murdered by elf haters. Without the magic my father produced the town obviously found out I was a half-elf child which caused massive havoc. The town concluded I could stay, but I was never looked at the same again. I was hated and beaten by my childhood friends for being what I was: a half-elf. I could not fight back, for it was a losing battle if I did. All the more reason to kick me and my mother out of the town if I hurt a human child. We had nowhere to go. Desperate my mother married the mayors son. I could stand it no longer and by then I was old enough to leave and set out on my own. My mother would be fine and taken care of, for the village did not hate my mother for having a cursed son and being decieved by a elven man for being a human. My mother did not disagree with the town, for she feared what they might do to me. I decided to leave. That night I heard my mother scream, it was pitch black in the house and I ran in to see her being attacked by someone with a blunt object. I bolted at whoever it was and struck him with my Scimitar right through the back instantly killing the person. It was then clear as my mother lit the room, I had killed my stepfather. He was beating my mother...because of me. It was clear I had made the right choice to leave. To save my mother I boldly let the village know what had happened and left. Knowing if they tried to stop me would only be causing there own deaths, they let me leave without a word. I joined the Ebon Caravan and have been traveling ever since for years."

"I killed a man, a man who hated me because he thought I was a killer of men. I proved him right in the end. I am a half-elf who is hated and looked differently at because I am a half-elf. I search for my place in the world, a world where everyone can someday be able to live peacefully and in harmony with each other despite there race and color. My alias is Veigue Dreamfall and in the Caravan they call me The Amazing Sworddancer."

It's really good! You even explain how you could learn to be a Dervish by yourself!

But there are some points a bit strange, especially about your mother. When she was young, she was a traveling human gypsie, she meets an elf, and suddenly she set in a city of elf-haters, and there is nothing to convince her to leave this city, even after his love's death, and his son left. Perhaps was she a traditional dancer, and she met your elven father while she was traveling to a larger city for a dance contest? That would explain why it's impossible for her to quit her city, since she never left it.

Another point that is strange, how old was your mother when she become a widow? Suppose that she married the elf at 16, and he was killed 5 to 10 years later. The mayor son could choose amongst many younger maiden to marry, and I doubt he would marry one that "met" an elf! I would suggest you that your mother married the mayor's father, who just lost his wife.
