| Rhuxley03-27-07, 12:22 PM | Sophie was born to an elven mother, a courtisan for a local human count. Rather than face public humiliation for entertaining a courtisan, and an elf, the Count gave the woman a stipend, until sophie was of age, at which point he aided in finding her small a diplomatic possition. She was a merchantile representative, a diplomat who worked at the docks, greeting & recieving traveling merchants, and negotiating for Count. Durring her stay as the representative she fell in love with sailing, and took short trips as often as she could, she even started working on making her own small ship. After a few years her mother past away of a disease, and sophie was torn up. Deciding that without her mother around he was almost in the clear, and that sophies current distress could cause her to do somethign stupid, the Count "promoted" sophie to a possition as Merchantile Ambassidor. Her duties are traveling from island to island(the map is a bunch of islands) and improving/expanding the Counts trade lines. She has been traveling the seas for a short time now. This is where the game begins. |

He wants to do what is right, and honourable, but more often than not practicality prevails. - She knows who her father is, but knows she cannot tell people, so she wants to be royalty & act like royalty, but she knows she isnt actually royalty. She dresses in a courtiers outfit, and fine jewelry, because she can do so. She also wears her title, and her crest/badge with pride, displaying it everywhere. She wants to become rich enough to buy her own land and title, so her father can openly refer to her as his kin. - For some reason, she is in awe of her father, and wants only to get his approval, she cannot see past his lies or misdirections in any way. Everything he does is put in the best light. like this "promotion" is actually a HUGE honour for her, as she sees it as a chance to prove her worth. - She a bit of a nervous disorder, a little ADHD, causing her to get stressed easily(for a half-elf, so just a little bit more than a human). She cannot focus on long drawn out tasks well, except for sailing, which allows her to clear her mind. |

Of course they don't catch such things as using "past" instead of "passed", but it will help a lot. B-A courtesan is a high class *****. She has a number of customers. You are likely thinking of "mistress", which is only one lover in most cases. C-You need a better reason why the Count wants to keep her relationship a secret. It is quite routine for a man like the count to have one or several women on the side, so he is unlikely to pay much hush money. So some possibilities... 1-the Count married much above himself and his wife is highly jealous. If she found out he had knocked up some lass, he could be ruined. [This gives Sophie a game useful enemy, as the wife does know, but does not want to publicly acknowledge it. So she is trying various secret schemes to harm her. Her mother's death may not have been an accident either.] 2-Sophie has a possible claim on the throne after the Count dies. The Count may prefer a different child, there may be policy implications, or Sophie's claim may be open to challenge and possible civil war. This last might fit if Ma was a courtesan and the Count was only the most likely father. Backers of other candidates would claim she is not the Count's. [Again we have possible game useful developments as friends or foes of other candidates become aware of her and start reacting to that good/bad news.] 3-For some reason, the liason is especially objectionable. Ma was supposed to be a lover for the king, not the count, and the king had better not find out about the pouching. There is a delicate treaty with the elves and the kid is proof the treaty was violated. Etc, etc. Again, we have possibilities for the game. 4-We can just have him tiring of the affair and sending Ma away with the funds to raise the kid, but this is rather dull for game purposes. Chaotic Good does not mean "wants to do what is right, and honourable, but more often than not practicality prevails." Practicality is a different issue entirely and affects all alignments. Our CG is one who defines good as what the individual wants, just as the LG defines it as what the law says. Either may be practical or impractical. So if we say Sophie is practical, we are not defining her CG nature. |
| Rhuxley03-28-07, 09:51 PM | Thanks, I think im gunna mix 2 & 3. Maybe has a wife who knows about her, and realizes that if the count dies sophie gets the throne and not her. Thats good. Any other suggestions? |
| David Argall03-29-07, 01:24 AM | Well, she is old enough to have had one or several love interests. Or less intense contacts with people of interest. Now I do notice that I have no idea of her class, so it would seem you could use some link to her normal function in an adventure. How did she end up a fighter/rogue/cleric/wiz? |
