I've got a warlock approved with the name of "Dante."
I'm not sure if thats too cliche' or not.

The iconic character is Morthos (sounds like Morpheous to me).
I like the darker spooky type names. But I'm at a loss at the moment...

As for the lie, Here is my warlock sitting at a tavern, after saving the local maiden from kidnapping by orcs...and some scruffy kid, a paladin's squire comes and asks me...
"Hey, aren't you a Warlock!?"The tavern falls silent.
"Nah, I'm a sorcerer."
"But wasn't that a purple glowing Eldrich Blast (TM) you shot the orc chieftan with?"
"Nooooo. Kid, where did you go to school? A barn? that was a Magic Missile."
"Then how come you're wearing armor?"
"Well, I'm kind of a Warmage..."
"But you said your a sorcerer!"
"Its an arcane thing...you wouldn't understand."

Unconvinced, the towns folk start lighting torches and grabbing pitchforks.
"Lousy conversation anyways. Luke, we're gonna have company!"

I can't start blasting away at the kid, I'ld like to but I can't
There are times when a good lie can avoid trouble.

So what is a good inventive lie I can surprise my DM with. I'm not going to confuse guys with class levels, but the pesants...yeah. Need a few good lies...

Of course Sorcerors can wear armour! It's not your fault all the other spellcasters don't bother because their too lazy. And besides, sometimes you fight up close. Oh, yes you're quite good with a sword as it happens.....

Ok this may be a stupid question, but in what book is this warlock class

What if instead of pretending to be just a sorcerer, he was pretended to be a fighter or a cleric? Fighter would be more low-key (he'd have to keep from beaming people all the time), and cleric would be funnier (of course I'm a cleric of Ra!), and allow him to shoot as many beams and he can stomach while still wearing armor.

Camu- Warlock is one of the new Base Classes introduced in the Complete Arcana

Anytime im caught in a sticky situation i always try and turn it back on the other person if possible. Answer questions with questions, and try to ask yes or no questions, or questions with little room for lengthy response. Follow up each of their responses by asking your next question immediatly so they cant elaborate, or steer the conversation elsewhere.

Another good way to hide the bad things about you is to bring up, or make up :), bad things about the other person. Bend the truth. People of low intelligence are VERY likly to believe bent truth especially if your the only one they hear.

"Squire-... you shot the orc chieftan with?
Dante- Who is your master whelp?
S- Sir (whoever).
D- And does your master wish the orc to be alive?
S- No.
D- So its a good thing that the orc is dead?
S- Yes.
D- And you were personally there to see this ravaging monster die?
S- Yes.
D- Well why didnt i see you helping? Were you hiding?
S- No!
D- A Squire hiding from his duties is a disgrace. Did you tell your master of your actions??

Its not a specific lie, but a lie will only work one or two times before people (and the DM) start finding ways around it.

Thanx for the response.

How about names? Is Dante too cliche'?

OK, how about this?
I'm a fighter, and what you saw were my fabulous Rary's Gauntlets of Glowing Retribution! And if you save a princess, you might be awarded a pair too!

I definitely think "Dante" is a cool name, and not cliche at all. As for the part about covering up your identity, you shouldn't be focused on defining your character in game terms. Instead of saying he's a "sorcerer" or "cleric," you can claim to be a mage. Not a wizard, not a sorcerer, just a mage, or some other generic word for an arcane magic user. When they ask, you can explain that you are an arcane warrior, blessed with the power to blast your foes with eldritch fire and still wear armor and swing a sword.
