I'll be quick about this since I'm at work at the moment. My Character currently a paladin, worshipper of Wee Jas (yes, I know that's unusual) He's currently Paladin 3/Warmage 1. He's definately not your typical paladin. He tends to be a brooding figure who wears his inner darkness like a cloak. Looks-wise he could very well come off as a villian- wearing black armor with the symbol of wee jas on the front of his breastplate. His cape is blood-red with black trim. Black hair and silver-grey eyes that glow red when he starts launching his arcane spells.

Instead of your typical goody good pally, I'm going for more of a tragic hero. Something happened in his past that has scarred him spiritually- I don't know what.

He is a member of the Ruby Guard, the elite military arm of the Church of Wee Jas that consists entirely of Paladin-Arcanists who are known for their black-red armor. The are typically found guarding temples, doing battle with enemies of the church or helping the local militia protect the town.

Alright master story spinners, I need a dark, tragic, but good paladin. at level 20 I'll end up as a Paladin 3/Warmage 7/Eldritch Knight 10 if thats of any importance to you.

Thank you in advance

First off, I would suggest Spellsword instead of Eldritch Knight, because Warmage is not a very good full caster.

Second, I need the name of the character to start writing. So if you please?

What race is this fellow? If he's a half-elf or something, you might say that he's been bullied and kicked around a lot, and has joined the church of Wee Jas in order to gain power over his tormentors. Of course, that would depend on the nature of the bullying, but it would be easy enough to make up a colorful, convincing history. Such a character could still be Good, but it would be a grim, determined kind of Good...the sort of Good that's determined to teach the rest of the world how to behave no matter what.

Maybe he's been on the wrong side of the law, convicted of a serious crime that he did not commit. It would have to be something serious: a rape, a murder, a string of thefts, et cetera. That could leave a character wanting to make sure others never had to suffer the same sort of wrong, especially if he underwent something bad in prison.

Perhaps his parents served an Evil god, and he is trying to get out from under that--but not yet succeeding entirely. That would make for an interesting roleplaying challenge as he slowly learned that the rest of the world really does value goodness.

Maybe that helps a bit? ^_^

The nature of this Paladin's relationship with a Lawful Neutral deity is necessary. While I wouldn't immediately discount this situation, the nature of these Paladin-Arcanists you speak of is intriguing, but could be problematic. Wee Jas might not approve of some of these Paladin's actions on her behalf, and she has been notorious for being stingy when it comes to imparting her power unto mortals. If you could explain the situation better, it would give us all a better grasp of things.

A Paladin I had once was a woman who was raped, and impregnated. She cared for the infant while she sought justice for those that raped her, killed her husband, and destroyed her small village. She had to fight a seething hatred for men while at the same time temper her desires for revenge. This resulted in her having a rather dark demeanor in the beginning, but as the campaign progressed she began to let go of revenge. She ultimately spared her rapists, reducing them into frightened, powerless fools in her presence. Her faith and her higher purpose of turning a tragedy into a positive situation paid off.

To answer your questions

Name: Lucifer Xanderholme
Race: Human
Build: Pal 3/Wm 7/Ek 10 (I have my reasons)

Ruby Guard: Her most loyal and devoted sect, lends arcane firepower to the church. The sect boasts everything from Pally/Warmages (Like Lucifer) to Paladin/Wizards. Candidates are selected from ranks of paladins who show great arcane potential.

Rough Background: Loyal and faithful paladin of Wee Jas, Just recently inducted into the Ruby Guard. Became a paladin when he came of age (17 or 18). Raised by the temple since his parents were killed defending the town from a siege at the age of 10. He has a twin brother, missing since the siege, not certain if he's alive or dead.

I hope this helps

Lucifer Xanderholme has seen unrestrained magic in his life. From a young age he has been in the care of the priests of Wee Jas and he has seen that power wielded both with care and recklessly. The latter he has seen cause rampant destruction the former widespread good. When he was 13 he joined a raid against a hidden temple of Nerull. The Reapers clerics showed no mercy. They would destroy their own followers to wound a foe. To them life was meaningless.

While he and his companions drove them from the temple the twisted minions of the Reaper ran not towards the safety of the mountains or woods. They did not either seek out allies who would aid them in their defense. No these twisted creatures sought out a nearby town. Sought it out and destroyed whatever they could find there. They showed no indication of trying to save themselves... only of trying to destroy others.

During the course of the slaughter there was little that young Lucifer could do. His assignment had, quite appropriately, been one of support... indeed he was to watch the horses while the others were in the temple.

Lucifer prayed that night that Wee Jas or any other god who would listen would grant him strength to protect the innocent. That he would never again be forced to watch such depredations without a way to stop them.

The next day a ranking cleric at his temple-home came to him and announced that his prayers had been fullfilled. Lucifer did not know how the the priest had even known of those prayers until he was led to his new home. He had heard of the Ruby Guard but never met one until this day. It would seem Wee Jas herself had heard those prayers and truly had chosen to answer.
