Hi!
I'm gonna play a dervish in the next campaign, would like some help with doing a nice backstory to my character, the campaign will be played in faerun and we will start at lvl10.

I will start my character like so:
swashbuckler3/fighter2/Dervish5, and then maxout dervish and finishing of with tempset if the campaign goes that far...

he will be Chaotic Good human, wis will be my dumpstat so he will be pretty dimwitted xD

I'm thinking a ballroom hustler of sort, who lives on social skills and a bucket load of perform, so he will be one heck of a dancer, maybe pretending to be a noble.
Our DM never willingly puts us in meaningless fights(the players another story) so social skills will be good in min/maxing too, so he will not be unplayable... yay!

anyone played anything similar who could point out what could work out? like childhood and such?

I'm thinking he was born the second son of a lower noble family, and recieved formal training from he chief of the guard, hence the fighter2, but as he wasn't the biggest lad, he adapted to use guile and dexterity which has proven successful in the many fights he has been at dances and the likes(brats picking fights to show off).
as the second son of the family he wasn't to obliged to stay and learn the works of the house, so he eagerly took the chance to seek his own fame and fortune...
he has charmed his way forward in the upper crusts of society and learned that a fast,as well as flashy blade is always useful, so has trained hard to acquire the skills to pull it off( hence dervish, he doesn't really know he is a dervish,it's just his way ofcombining fighting and dancing xD), this and his values make him eager to draw his blades if he think he can win the favor of a fair lady.
all the dancing and hard training has made him very slender, so many think he is a half-elf, and he has indeed had interaction with elves as they share the love for the graful art of fightin so he have had many hours of mock fights, hard training and of course, a great deal of joy.

ps. he fights with dual scimitars, but it has nothing to do with drizzt, damn pointyears...

I think you would be better served by dumping strength, the swashbuckler has very low will saves, as does the fighter, your character will be charmed and confused left and right. A level or two in rogue would add an extra punch. seems like you have the story down though, what did you need help with? Perhaps rather than having him just leave his family, have his family die in some greusome manner while he is a ward of some other noble, with only two levels of fighter he underwent enough to be formidable but not a knight. He then tries to hunt down the people that killed his family, but he quickly runs out of funds and is jailed for "foraging". He is seen as a fit boy at this time and is impressed upon a galley, which in the manner of a fortnight is under control by the crew and roving the seas as a pirate ship. A year passes before the now swashbuckler again starts the quest to avenge his family with new knowledge acquired on the seas. His travels began as a mercenary fighter, but he soon fell in with a band of gypsies. He learned the arts of manipulation and the grace of dance, which he now uses to hunt down his enemies, but first he must enlist a group of formidable people to back him up as he goes about secretly bringing them into his own personal agenda.
