Not sure wether this quetion belongs in here so forgive me for the nubcake.

I have a player who chose to play a cleric. His deity of choosing is Chaotic Good (as per the character alignment). But he insist on wanting to have the Destruction Domain as one of his domains.

Now, from what I have seen in the faerun pantheon - there is no such thing, a good deity with a destruction domain.
Since it his first time swoosing the cleric, I don't wanna "no-no" his choices.
Do any of you have an idea how can a combine the following, roleplayingly right:
Good faith, Destruction domain?

thanks,
BB

FRCS? Then you're pretty much out of luck. Normally, you can choose not to have a deity as a cleric, and use a philosophy or ideal instead. You could then combine pretty much anything you want. IIRC though, FRCS disallows this option explicitly, plus the pantheon is set already. You'd either have to modify an existing deity, invent a new minor power that could grant him spells and powers, or waiver the no non-deity clerics restriction.

Just went through Faiths and Pantheons. The only non-racial FR deity I could find with the Destruction domain who accepts CG clerics is Garagos, the CN deity of battle and plunder. (Note that Garagos is more aggressive and less compassionate than Tempus, a younger CN god of battle who has taken over most of Garagos' portfolio, which means his clerics may not be especially popular.)

A good choice might be to "invent" a minor deity based on the Hindu god Shiva (the destroyer).
In Hindu religion destruction is important for the cyclic relationship between death and birth (of both living creatures and the whole universe)

A Shiva-type deity would sort of fit.

_________
Edit: To fit with the whole FR pantheon thing it might be possible to see the Shiva-type deity as an "aspect" (a cultural variant) of some pre-existing deity. Would sort of fit if he (to balance the Destruction domain) took Healing or something to represent the "rebirth" aspect.

I don't think the OP problem is to actually find a CG god who allows the Destruction domain, it seems more like a RP question, am I right?

(Beside, you could check Anhur. He's CG, he doesn't have Destruction, but he does have Strength, Storm, War & Wrath. I wouldn't see any problem to add Destruction.)

Now, back to the RP question. Imagine a Viking. A good guy, who might be trador or something like that. He also believes that for any other Viking, it is a dishonor to let an insult unpunished, and it is an honor to die with a weapon in hand. Because if you do perish with your weapon in hand, you're greeted in the Valhala and you have a whole crew of Valkyrie to serve beer to you for eternity, until Ragnarok, when you will joyfully fight whatever demons or bad guys (can't remember) alongside the Good Gods! So if any viking insult your mother, your sister or even your donkey, let's fight for that! And if your a great fighter, adept a choping heads (i.e., with the Destruction domain), you will only be respected for that by every other viking!

Get the feeling?

If Vikings really were like that, I think they would like Garagos (who, as I mentioned, has the Destruction domain and accepts CG clerics).

Shame for this guy.
Too bad he is on "the brink of madness". But I think that would suit my player much.

I thank you very much for your answer. It sure was helpful.

Btw, how does a favored weapon change anything game wise? and what if the PC-cleric chooses another?

A favored weapon only has a game effect for a cleric if the deity offers the War domain, and the cleric chooses that domain. If that happens, the cleric gains proficiency with that weapon (if he wasn't already proficient) and gains Weapon Focus with that weapon (if he didn't already have it). Otherwise, it has no game effect. Many clerics choose to wield the favored weapon of their deities, as a matter of piety, pride, or prestiege, even if they need to take a feat to gain proficiency. However, an individual cleric may wield any weapon he chooses. His deity will not descend from on high and smite him for declining to use his favored weapon. However, other clerics of the same deity might make fun of him.

Thank you very much Crimson. That was helpful.

I'll go see my player and ask him of all this. :)
