Hi, I'm a DM running an ebberon campaign, and I was gonna add a side-kick to my PC's: A halfling scout. On the NPC personality tables, and the traits and stuff, I got Daredevil archetype, Dark, Skillful, Foul-mouthed, and Dirty. How should I structure this person? Thanks. I stuck max skill points in to Profession (cook), so that should cover the skillful part. Books are in my signature.

It sounds like he's a Talentan, but the profession (cook) suggests a connection to House Ghallanda.

Okay, here's my attempt at a story: first he was a typical Talentan halfling, living with his nomadic tribe, riding around on dinosaurs, learning to be a scout, etc. Then one day -- well, over the course of a month or two, perhaps -- he developed a Least Mark of Hospitality (in this case, purify food and drink 2/day). He, and all of his tribe, thought that it was great that he had been called to the purpose of providing hospitality, as all of the tribe revered House Ghallanda. He made his way to Gatherhold. There, House Ghallanda put him to work and gave him lessons in cooking. He proved to be an adept cook, and his future with House Ghallanda seemed bright. Some high House officials even spoke of sending him to serve as a sous-chef at one of the finest restaurants throughout Khorvaire, cooking fine Aundairan cuisine in an elegant Fairhaven restaurant.

However, as time wore on, he grew increasingly restive. He found the life of a Ghallanda cook dull, and as he diced shallots and grated the skins of lemons for their zest, he found himself fantasizing of the days when he could ride the open plains of Talenta atop the back of a galloping clawfoot. Moreover, the impeccable standards of cleanliness demanded by Ghallanda kitchens seemed obsessive and irritating, especially as he was not naturally inclined to be fastidious about cleanliness. He eventually found himself growing disillusioned with House Ghallanda.

He informed his teachers in Gatherhold that he had concluded that, in spite of his gifts, the life of a chef was not for him, no matter how far he might rise in that line of work. He set off to return back to his tribe. While his tribe and family accepted him back, there was a sense of irritation that he had forsaken his potential as a Dragonmarked member of House Ghallanda. Many believed that it would be a waste of his potential to live as an ordinary nomadic halfling with no connection to the House. His mother and other members of his tribe did not exactly nag him about it, but a sense of disappointment hung around every conversation about his life and choices.

Eventually, he decided that, unwilling to put up with the subtle guilt his tribe had foisted upon him for failing to take the opportunity to act as a dragonmarked or the fastidious boredom he associated with working in a Ghallanda inn, he decided to ride off and seek his own life, free from somberly disappointed relatives and free from impeccably clean Ghallanda kitchens.

Cursing the fate that was supposed to be a blessing, his dragonmark, he wandered. Feeling as though his life was without meaning, he began to try to tempt fate, taking needless risks to see if the gods willed him to be dead. Eventually, he fell in with a group of adventurers, your PCs.

Oh, sorry, I forgot to add that I picked glidewing as a mount. He's in debt to house ghallanda to pay for the glidewing. I wasn't going to do a dragonmark. Thanks anyways though, I'll think about changing it.
