| Sarella Starshine02-27-07, 01:35 PM | Hi all, I recently quit DMing and has created a new character because one of my players decided to DM instead. I decided that I wanted to play a Favored Soul of Pelor. Her background is that she was orphaned at a very young age and spent most of her childhood in an orphanage ran by the church of Pelor. Because of the treatment she recived in this oprhanage (kind, compasionate, etc.), she quickly absorbed the faith of Pelor and became very devoted to his practice and his ideals, and would do things that she thought exemplified his ideals (helping with the younger children, tend the sick, try and befriend and tend to the stray animals, etc.). When she was older and it was time for her to leave the orphanage, she asked for and recived the chruch's blessing to go to a nunnery in Pelor's name. There she learned more about Pelor and her faith grew. One day during her morning prayers, Pelor blessed her with divine powers. The nuns who were with her, saw this blessing and sent her away to be trained in how to harness this blessing. After her training (level 1 Favored Soul), she was sent out to the world to help with those that need helping and to show people the good that is Pelor. What I need help with is a few ideas as to why Pelor granted her these powers (for possible DM use), how would one play a 30 yr old woman who has never had much contact with the 'outside world', along with the usual questions about roleplaying a devout person. I do have about 3 weeks (if not longer depending on when I pop (pregnant with second child that is due very very soon)) before we start the new campaign, so, I do have plenty of time to get this character as fleshed out as I can make it. |

B: Pelor has some specific task in mind for her, to be completed once she has reached a certain level of power (DM's discretion). Age doesn't matter so much in this case. 30 really isn't that old, contradictory to popular opinion. Basically, you want to roleplay her as a woman who is experienced and confident, but very naive. She's been surrounded by followers of Pelor her whole life. Maybe in the orphanage she has had some muted exposure to life's cruelties, but by and large she's been shielded from all the evil and self-serving folk out there. Most of what she knows of the outside world is what other people have told her and what she's read about. As a devout person, just be the kind of girl who constantly asks herself, "What would Pelor, the Lord of Light, do?" |

I tried to keep this as vague as possible - your DM should of course take this idea apart and turn it into something you don't quite expect. |
