OMG IT'S THE 1337 ROXORHZ!!!! ph34r the pwnin' necromancer PUNCTUATION SUXORZ!!!

But seriously, mate, yes it is a great class. And my DM wouldn't let me play one because he felt it was unbalancing. So i now play a Druidzilla. But anyway, the CD boards is not really the place for ranting about how nifty a class is.

Razor, what about the Wizard, Sorcer or Cleric who all can become liches at 11th level with the Craft Wonderous Item feat. It's easier than you think.

Well, they're completely screwed because they lose so much of their spellcasting progression. A properly built Cleric could pull it off, but that's about it.

Still, DN ain't so great.

acually, from an RP stand-point, the thing I hate the most about the class is the rail road from the city-17 of mortality into lichdom.

personally, I wish I could delay the whole lichdom thing, till the charictar was psicologicaly ready.

I had an idea of a charictar who came from a line of necromancers, and had a grand-father as a scheming lich. His parent are brutaly murdered at the hands of palidens and clerics of good deities, and he was adopted to be reformed. obviously this guy fights his way out and joins the adventurers and blah, blah, blah...

but he practices necromancy to feel close to his mother. He isn't super death obsessed and doesn't want to kill the world and raise it to undead glory. He just wants revenge on those who killed his family. He may also attempt to raise his dead parents as powerful undead. His motives are not that of a mad man, he is clearly a sane rational person, and somone who doesn't want to die...yet...

I actually overread that part. Actually an interesting technique - make your own comment so illegible that noone reads the intersting parts.

That's what I'd call multiclassing after level 19. Taking Dread Necro level 20 symbolizes for me the enaction of the ritual of lichdom.

About the normal oldschool lich thing. I played it once, it was nice and all.. but it missed so much potential because you loose 3 levels with the ECL adjustment! You are way underpowered to anything you will meet and a lot of racial features just dont work because you are basically 3 levels lower then what you could be. Ok, you can't die. But there are also spells that, if properly used, will deal with that. Lichdom old style just wasnt worth it for a player character.

I havent seen the new class yet, but becoming a lich without loosing levels is always nice in my book! shame it doesnt come untill level 20.. i hate to bring campaigns up to that level.. and epic, imho, just sucks too much compared to the fun you can have at lower levels and actually being challenged by things without the battles going on for either 2 dice rolls, or 5 hours!

But that was completely off topic.

I think the class sounds nice and, if played correctly, can be very nice indeed. But when you plan on going epic with your campaign, id make becoming a lich your event thatll make the epic levels available for you (so make it a bit harder to get then just a class feature)
