| beavis12303-14-04, 03:13 PM | NO!!!!!!!!!! |
| FrozenInHell03-14-04, 04:24 PM | why? |
| beavis12303-14-04, 05:11 PM | Have you ever read the descriptions for Lich and Vampire??? If you want to change rules to fit your campaign, go a head. |
| The_Yellow_Dart_Swinger03-14-04, 05:47 PM | Its like saying can I have a zombie skeleton or a wraith shadow. They are two completely different non-compatible things. Also to get either of the templetes you have to be a humaniod to begin with so once you become either a Lich or a Vampire your type becomes undead. And you can not currently be an Undead to become either a Lich or a Vampire. Edit: But again, if your the DM its your campaign and you can do what you like in it. Also the pages I was talking about making a Lich or Vampire are on 167 for Lich and 252 for the vampire in the 3.5e Monster Manual |
| Curunir03-14-04, 06:19 PM | In the Monster Manual (in the section about adding templates) I believe it explicitly states that ou cannot put two undead templates together and even gives the vampire lich as an example. Completely off the subject: It also states that the regeneration ability only works on creatures that have a metabolism (which closes a nasty loophole I discovered in 3.0 that lets you create almost invincible characters) |
| Elzaban the Ethereal03-15-04, 03:14 PM | Bah, those rules are too restricting on creativity ;) If someone came up with a nifty backstory and unique flavor for a vampiric lich character, I'd probably let him have it... asuming that the other characters were high enough of a level. But of course, as has been said, if you go strictly be the rules (and common sense, I suppose), it isn't possible. |
| Felonius03-16-04, 10:02 AM | I think it was possible in 2e. :) There was a book in Return to Tomb of Horrors that killed and transformed you into vampire if you read it. (Book of Blood...?) In 2e the ritual that eventually changed you into a lich took a while to complete and in the end you had to kill yourself in order to transfer your soul into your phylactery. So you could do the ritual until the very end and then kill yourself by reading the Book of Blood. This should turn you into a vampire and a lich simultaneously. :b:  :b: Of course you might want to consult your DM first... :D In 3e the rules for templates forbid this. - C |
| Felonius03-17-04, 05:01 AM | Originally posted by beavis123 The discussion is concluded. We are correct. In internet forums being correct hardly ever concludes anything. :D IMHO, if you pull off something like my above post in 3e, you would create a new type of undead. The DM needs to agree of course and you have to create a new template with him/her. Don't just combine the lich and vampire templates, but create something new and exiting. Remeber that the DM sets the final Level Adjustment. Hmm... I think I'll work on this for my next main villain. - F |
| LiXinjian03-18-04, 09:29 AM | Originally posted by Cynosure Um, which forums dubbed you the voice of reason, Beavis123? I'll be sure not to go to those... Wisdom awaits here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=202072) Cynosure, you saw what he could do with "Evil characters offer more flavor?", so it's too late to turn back! :D Felonius: Don't worry, you didn't offend Mr. 123 at all. He's just snappy and hard-headed. FrozenInHell: The rules prohibit you from doing this, but who's to say you can't (as a DM) alter them a bit to suit your purposes? Play the game as you see fit. However, I must question what a Lich would stand to gain by becoming a Vampire (or is it the other way around? Hmmm). There might be other avenues to explore, though. What exactly do you have in mind? What do you want to do? Where do you want to go with your NPC (I'm assuming it's a NPC, otherwise, it barely makes sense, so much munchkinism in one human vessel ;)) |
| beavis12303-18-04, 10:38 AM | People will play this game the way they want. Good Luck!!! |

In the end he's funny in Ford Fairlane kind of way. Slightly amusing, but... :D Originally posted by beavis123 I speak for those who truly play the game. Originally posted by beavis123 People will play this game the way they want. Mr. 123 sees the light after all and in the end we all agree. :cloud9: Phew! You had me worried there for a while. For a moment there, I thought you only posted in this thread to get the last word in a fictional argument. ;) - F |
| Haradim03-19-04, 10:52 AM | Originally posted by LiXinjian However, I must question what a Lich would stand to gain by becoming a Vampire (or is it the other way around? Hmmm). Flawed 'lichification' process strikes me as a decent explaination. No longer burdened by age, sickness, or even physical frailty, but the process leaves the Lich in a state of constant weakening; if he doesn't feed on the blood/souls/whatever of others, his attributes slowly degrade, until a once-proud, amibitious, and powerful magic user is no more than a crippled animal that can never die (again)... I'd have no problem with a vampire Lich. I'd likely stick to the Lich template though, and have the 'vampire' part be more flavor then mechanical. Such a Lich would have only a couple vampire-ish abilities, mostly oriented around feeding. |
