What is the origin of the Doppelgangers? Were they the result of an (unfortunate) magical experiment? Where do they come from?

Where can I find some data about it?

09-14-04, 12:43 AM Well, acording to Dragon #080 (Man, do I love ebay), dopplegangers are the result of acient arcane experimentation, can only reproduce in human form, and they feel that all that is human should belong to them. That issue was, however, printed during 1e, so It might not be valad anymore.
