hi everyone
i need help with the roleplay and game mechanics of my new character. Here is a little little story, just to let you know wich are the problems:

One year ago; during a battle between a group of zentharim, a band of rogues and a caravan, the young thief Rihanna (a 16 years old thief Chaotic-Good) wielded a magic weapon belonged to one of the people of the caravan. This weapon was a warhammer, a magic one, with ego and personality. This hammer had the personality of a deceased cleric of Lathander (ng). The hammer kept control of the girls body and fought bravely against the enemies. But in the middle of the fight. A cleric of bane, the chief of the zentharim group, broke with his magic war mace the magic hammer. The disruption of the weapon caused the girl to fall uncouscoius to the earth. And the spirit of the weapon stayed inside the Rihanna body.

Ok thats the little story.... i would like to try to use a char. with double personality.
Igor-Male Cleric of lathander NGood
Rihanna-Girl Thief CGood

there are few problems-question!!
first of all...
how about the classes? i had to use two different sheets??
how about the experience points?
does one personality know what the other one have done when controlling the body?
etc etc etc

please helpe me! i stop writing 'cause i think i put already a lot of question... sorry for my badddd english and thank you!!!!!!!

Hmm..... the best way to do that would probably be with a Gestalt Character from Unearthened Arcana. If you dont know what that is, its basically 2 chars in one. You get to choose 2 classes each time you lvl up, and oyu could just play is to that the abilities of whatever personality is controlling the body atm, are more apparent. And, well, I'd pretty much say that they both had the same knowledge, but how they would handle said knowledge would depend on whether Igor or Rihanna was there atm.

Other then the mechanical difficulties, thats a pretty kickass background.

thank you very much chaotica!!! But we play on 3.0 and i dont think i can use Un. Arcana for this character...... i thikn i had to go with an house rule... but i want somethin' original and funny... and also not broken from the game balance point of view.... it is hard to find out

however when i can i will take a more detailed watch on UN. Arcana (i do not have that handbook)

anyone have other ideas?

This is what I would do if i was playing a chracter with two personalities
1) decide whether they are oblivious of eachother (in your case the rogue might be, but the cleric would defantly not be becuase he has been a freaking warhammer for who knows how long)

2) if they are oblivious use two completely differnt chracter sheets, beacuse well they have never met and wouldnt share any knowledge at all. They would have to experience everything on there own to gain knowledge. Thus experience points would only count for the personality that was in a battle at the time.

while if they do know that they share a body, i would go with a building on eachothers knowledge (thus experience is counted as a whole) kind of thing where you would have to be a multiclass (i dont rember if there are multi-classes anymore :P ) thief/cleric where by working together they would increase there power as a whole. While during battles depending on who is currently in control of the body would use the abilities that they have differnetly. Such as when the thief is in control she might be more sneaky and backstabbish, while when the cleric is in control he will act more ritious and help the other party members.

3) Decide on a switching system. Do you decide who is currently in control of the body, does changes occur with a trigger (like someone being in danger then the clericical powers suddenly kick in), or maybe its a periodic thing (where in the morning you roll to see who is in charge, or maybe its hourly and so on)

4) And lastly you have to decide on a battle system. Basically this endow's whether or not it is possible to switch personalities during battles. (IMO i would rather make it that switching personalities during a battle is not possible becuase the one character spirit is focused on the battle and change is not possible becuase of this. That also prevents power gaming where you can't be like hmm seems im behind this goblin and he doesnt see me, "DM my rogue personality kicks in and now im backstabbing the goblin"). While being able to switch does have some promise in some areas if you go with the trigger switch system; where during the battle if one of your party members gets hurt and the clerical part of the body has formed a strong bond with that character he might suddenly take control of the body in order to save him.

Just my two cents.

Additionally, how would stats (con, int, etc.) and hp work?

I would rule the same hp no matter what personality is in play, and the same physical stats. Mental stats, however, would change with each personality. Equipment would get kind of loopy as well...

*Rogue takes over*
I CAN'T MOVE!!! WHERE DID ALL THIS METAL ARMOR COME FROM?!?!
(Be funnier if he was a druid though...)

Additionally, if the personalities are aware of each other, what do they think of each other? Do they hate each other, viewing the other as attempting to steal the body? Do they work together? What would the rogue think of her "hard-earned" wealth dissappearing to a charity (even if gotten legitimately, such as through adventuring?)

Just some thoughts.

Since you have them both listed as good I think that they would mesh well together. The cleric might not like it when the rogue steals something, but he'll have to get used to it. It's an awesome idea though. I've never even thought of anything like that before. Bravo. Mental stats change, physical are static, the cleric will have to get used to fighting with daggers and the like or vice versa. Now, if the cleric were lecherous in any way shape or form... Role-playing could get hilarious... Hehehe...

The closest I've come to something like this would be a character I play on an X-Men MUSH. (Yeah, I know it ain't D&D, but bear with me). The girl is a mutant who had a split personality for as long as she can remember. One personality was completely feral. The other was basically human. Whenever the girl would speak, she would always use the first person plural when talking about herself. "We are the Reptillian." Things like that. How I worked it was that the feral side and the human side were both aware of the other, and each knew everything the other did. But what non-telepaths got to meet was a composite of the two, that changed depending on which personality was stronger at the time. For instance, if she was hurt or hungry, she'd grunt more, and be more likely to attack things. Other times she might be curious and naive. The best part, though, was that, because of her background, she saw people as a perfectly acceptable food source, and was hurt and offended when people tried to stop her from eating pedestrians. You could do similar things on the roleplaying side of things with your character.

As far as mechanics go, I'd say that you keep a single sheet. Drop the cleric's spells, abilties, etc. Perhaps give the girl a synergy bonus on skills the cleric had more than 5 ranks in. (Cleric has 10 ranks in Knowledge: Religion, girl gets a +4 to K:R checks.) This helps reflect the cleric's presence in the girl, without upsetting game balance.
