Character Background- Kalas- Human Bronze Dragon Shaman

Youth- Kalas was born in a small fishing village. His parents raised him with a strict sense of right and wrong, but he still told small lies if it was to his benefit. He was never able to fully break the habit, but he did learn the importance of the truth, in most situations, that is. Kalas had heard legends of a bronze dragon living nearby, but he didn’t really believe them, mostly because no one had seen the dragon for years.

Adolescence- Kalas’s early years were easy, helping out down at the docks, and occasionally going out fishing on his father’s boat, as well as hanging out with his friends, were some of his prime activities. Once, Kalas found a bronze scale while he and his friends were exploring, which he now wear’s as a medallion and good luck charm.

Notable Events- Kalas’s life was changed forever when a little old man came to visit the town, “For my health,” he said. Little did Kalas, who befriended the old man, know that the old man was really a bronze dragon in disguise. This was revealed when a black dragon, which lived in a mangrove swamp down the coast, attacked the village. The dragon swept through the tiny town, leaving death and destruction in its wake. Everyone tried to flee, and some manged to get away, including Kalas' parents, but Kalas wasn't aware of this. The black dragon trapped Kalas and the old man at the far edge of town, and the old man called it by name, and told it to leave, or suffer the consequences. The dragon just laughed, and hit the old man, knocking him back. As the dragon approached to finish the old man off, Kalas grabbed a mace from a fallen guard and leapt in the black dragon’s path to defend the old man. The black dragon just pushed him aside, saying, “I’ll finish you next.” Then, it turned to the old man, but the old man simply said, “I warned you.” At this point, he transformed to his true form, the great wyrm bronze dragon! He fought the black dragon, but was mortally wounded. Kalas approached as he lay dying, and the bronze dragon told him, “You defended me even though I did not need it, and it put your life at risk. You are truly noble at heart, and so I give you my power, that you may use it to do more good.” With this, the dragon touched Kalas’s forehead, and gave him the power of the bronze dragon. The bronze dragon then passed away. Kalas left the destroyed town, after paying his last respects to the dragon who had saved him, and then left, carrying only the mace, and a small backpack of provisions. He was unable to find his parents' remains, but believes that they yet live on, and he is searching for them in addition to his adventuring career. His parents are not aware that he survived, and so did their best to move on.

Recent- Kalas began his adventuring career on that day. He devoted himself to the worship of Bahamut, the Platinum Dragon, and the opposition of Tiamat and her forces. He dreams of becoming a platinum knight, a defender of metallic dragons from Tiamat and her evil dragons.

Dreams and Aspirations- Become a Platinum Knight, and cleanse the world of evil dragons.

Fears and Nightmares- Kalas still has nightmares about how powerful the black dragon’s attack on his village was. Other than that, he is afraid of very little, being very secure in his power.

Personality- Kalas is a very caring soul, and is generally very open to those around him. He doesn’t like to talk about his past very much, as those memories still pain him. He hates evil dragons and their kin vehemently, but he will give dragon shamans devoted to the chromatic dragons a chance to prove that they are not just out to ravage the world. He can be very leader like at times, but at others, he would simply rather let someone else take command. He is not terribly greedy, and will not always ask for a reward, but if one is offered, he will not refuse it.

So, what do you think now? I still have the old one, to compare them.

Dont bumb your own thread for atleast a day, give people a chance to reply.

As for the background, the whole dragon giving him the powers deal is kinda cliche', do dragons even actually *give* the shamans powers? Doesnt it work that the character goes after the power of a dragon himself?

How does he just start following Bahamut? He isnt exactly a commonly known god, and he doesnt have that many human followers.

You say he is afraid of very little because he is secure in his power... he's a first lvl character!?!? How is he secure in his power, is he a very arrogant and egotistical person who just thinks he is all powerfull?

Peace

In this order:
the dragon didn't just randomly imbue him with these powers, he unlocked the potential for their growth.

I'm going with part of what the dragon gave him, an innate knowledge of dragons and their kin, including their religion.

Try again, but this time jack him up about 20 levels or so. But yea, even back then he was scure in his growing power, but he didn't take insane risks that could get him killed. He knew when to retreat, but he would never show any fear of an enemy. Think Berethor in the siege of Helm's Deep, if you've played LotR: The Third Age.

And I'll post a link to the old thread if I can find it. Can't find it, so I'll just post the original.

Yes, I remember what I was told, but I had a new idea, which I have to post here.

As the black dragon broke through the town guard and wall the old man approached it, called it by name, and told it to leave immediately or suffer the consequences. The black dragon just laughed at this and knocked the old man aside. As the dragon approached to finish the old man off, Kalas grabbed a mace from a fallen guard and leapt in the black dragon’s path to defend the old man. He fought the black dragon, though he was gravely wounded. As he lay dying, Kalas approached the great Bronze Dragon who had saved him. He gazed with awe at the awesome power possessed by the Bronze Dragon, remembering that when the town guards were unable to beat the Black Dragon, this Bronze was able to destroy it, though he was gravely injured in doing so. The dragon passed away before his eyes, and Kalas left the destroyed town, after paying his last respects to the dragon that had saved him, carrying only the mace, and a small backpack of provisions.

Recent- Kalas left the town to study more of the Bronze Dragon. He devoted himself to the study of dragons, especially Bronze Dragons, and the worship of Bahamut, King of Good Dragons, which he discovered in his research. He opposes Tiamat, and all evil Dragons, and dreams of becoming a Platinum Knight, Defender of good Dragon-kind from their mortal foes the chromatic dragons.

Dreams and Aspirations- Become a Platinum Knight, and cleanse the world of evil dragons.

Fears and Nightmares- Kalas still has nightmares about how powerful the black dragon’s attack on his village was. Other than that, he is afraid of very little, being very secure in his power.
