Dragonic Character [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-16-05, 04:00 AM I am aiming to create a Dragonic style character. I am leaning towards sorcereress, as it seems to fit and the party is lacking in the way of magical 'oomph' so to speak. But i'm at a loss as to how best to continue, sorcerers arent really my strong suite, i usually play melee types (another reason i choose sorceress this time) thus i'm not positive the best class/race/feat combination. So far, i belive Bloodlines (from unearthed arcana) are available, though i admit i don't understand them fully. Also, Half-Dragons are also available along with all basic PHB races. Does anyone have suggestions on PrC/race/feat combinations?

07-16-05, 06:44 AM Okay, I am hoping you mean flavor, otherwise go to the optimization boards.

Draconic is flavorful, but LA really makes a spellcaster fall behind A LOT, I would suggest plain ol' human sorceress. If you have Complete Arcane, try qualifying for Mage of the Arcane Order (using a feat that allows you to prepare spells; Arcane Preparation) to get versatility in spells unmatched by anyone else (although fewer spells/day).

Bloodlines really isn't something you want to do, not as a spellcaster anyway, they give some bonuses but as a sorcerer a major bloodline would make you lose level 9 spells all together, a medium one would give you level 9 spells at lvl 20 and a minor one gives little to no benefits.

If your DM happens to be insane use the Dragon feat (#319, IIRC) that has the Troll-Blooded feat, gives you Regeneration 1/fire and acid but makes you fatigued in sunlight...

07-16-05, 05:04 PM The Draconic Feats from Complete Arcane are GREAT!!!! I am playing a sorcerer right now with only a couple of them and it's awesome. I'm human, with a story for being decended, obviously, from a red dragon. He is questing to figure it all out.

Anyway, level 1, I chose Draconic Heritage, and Draconic Breath. The ability to use a 1st level spell slot to make a 30' cone of fire for 2D6 damage is amazing. Storywise it's really fun too.

07-16-05, 08:28 PM Yeah, love those Draconic Feats. My Sorceress uses them all the time, burning everyone with 30ft cone of Fire really is great.

07-16-05, 11:40 PM Well, if going for the draconic flavor, a Sorcerer/Dragon Disciple is the way to go. Having played one before, let me just say that you won't be casting the uber spells of doom, but get yourself some Twilight Mithral Chain Shirt armor, and you'll be doing all right with the claw-claw-bite routine. And there's always scrolls for the other stuff.
