| Felyndaer05-24-06, 02:34 PM | I was planning upon playing a Dragonwrought (copper) kobold rogue. This is for a level 1 campaign, so I want to keep his story rather simple. Personalitywise, he acts CG, reflecting his draconic heritage. But he takes pity upon what that BASTARD Garl Glittergold did to poor Kurtulmak, so he has a burning hatred for gnomes (as most kobolds do). Would this sway him from being CG to a more CN alignment? Also, I have no clue as to what kind of backstory he would have. Being dragonwrought, he wouldn't have much of a reason to leave as he would have a comfortable, secured life as the clan's leader. Perhaps his clan was killed by adventurers when he was still a wyrmling? Or perhaps he's adventuring to find a new place to relocate his family to? I don't have many ideas, and would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you! |

| Fithero05-26-06, 12:53 AM | im not totally sure what a dragonwrought is, so im just going to assume its a kobold who is... more dragon that usual. Anyway, as for the whol CG thing, i recon it can be done. All he is doing is hating a god (and race) who seriously screwed over his races centuries ago, so i recon its fine for him to hate gnomes and still be CG. BUT I would suggest that if he meets a gnome who proves himself, your character give them a chance. An evil do-er would be "no.. die" no matter what the case, but an good kobold would be like "yeah.. i hate your race, but you just saved me... so yeah... we cool" As for the reason he had to leave, perhaps he was part of a truly evil tribe of kobolds, and they didnt want a decendant of a goodly dragon leading them (or the just the shaman was evil and didnt want a good leader.. too hard to manipulate) I can really think of anything else for the character without knowing more about dragonwoughts, sorry mate. Hope this helps some. Later |

Kurtulmak survived while other kobolds were killed in that cave-in. Please don't let be an orphan, clichés are... well, clichéd. Instead you could be a representative of your clan, always trying to establish trade between potential allies and your clan, regularly reporting home (mages and psions have the easiest time in this department) on the situation in the lands of the Big People. |

To be honest, I've never figured out why kobolds are listed as lawful evil. After reading Races of the dragon (I love the book!), I summed up their aspects: -extremely hardworking -sacrificing themselves for their colony -feeling a hatred against races that wronged them (sorry, if someone's god collapses a mine for fun over the head of someone for fun and the followers of said god have no problem with that, it doesn't sound completely unreasonable to me...) -protecting their young Actually, that sounds almost like the definition of lawful good and is at least not more evil than your standard human or dwarf. IMO, the trapmaking small lowlevel monster role should be served primarily by goblins. Seems odd that you'd be related to copper dragons I've felt that dragonwrought-ness is not truly related to dragons in your ancestry, but rather a kind of random genetic mutation. Also, with regards to the kobold creation myth (dragons became mortal in order to procreate and cut off limbs of themselves which would grow into a second dragon with which the dragons would procreate; the blooddrops of the wounds became the first kobolds), every dragontype seems to have kobold "descendants". Why would he pity Kurtulmak? Kurtulmak survived while other kobolds were killed in that cave-in. Kobolds don't really fear death since they believe to be reincarnated right away if they died for the good of their warren. He might pity Kurtulmak for losing the biggest mine there ever was - and for possibly losing his entire warren (Kurtulmak himself does the reincarnating bit... it's unsure what has happened to kobolds prior to his ascension). Good point. There are too many exceptional cases in the world - the most rarest species on the material plane has to be a normal human whose parents where not murdered by undead/orcs/drow/carrots and who learned a usual craft. |
