neutral evil alignment.

You did not specify gender but I'm going to throw out:

female: Kyr'ess Auvryndar, Varenthia Faen'Tlabbar

male: Zairin Kith'dring, Vaelen Everhate, Kyrix Dauth'vain

Drow like using apostrophes.

Drizzt uses dual scimitars, not longswords, but I believe his father Zaknafein used longswords so anyone familiar with the Dark Elf trilogy might be mildly irritated by your character.

Also, on a min/max note, dualing longswords means a -4 penalty to hit on every attack, I'd suggest you try kukri, which are light (therefore only -2 to each), have a nice critical range, and are both exotic and elegant. I can't think of any character who even uses a kukri, much less two of them, so it might be a nice way to go.

I could see lawful-evil, since the Drow society has a fairly rigid "chain-of-command" mentality, and if you're playing an evil Drow, there's a good chance you're still following mom's orders.
As far as names, talk with your DM to find out what social status he'll let you have. The older Drow books gave the rankings of the houses of Menzoberranzan (sp?) so you could adopt your family name there. This opens up all sorts of RP opportunities, since the respect you'll receive from those you don't know is related directly to the level of your house.

You could say that they are lawful evil as a community, but i think individually they are as selfish, paranoid and cruel as it may get. Things like killing to rise in ranks, beating down slaves, torturing for fun and the urge to inflict as much pain as possible without killing someone. Good torturers were kept in high regard. It's very likely that drow also delight in gladatorial games and such.

The drow society has no eye for the weak. If you were assassinated (which happened quite often) you were too weak to survive and your family, which you should never ever trust, wouldn't even care about your death. Even worse, if you should die of old age, your body will be tossed outside the city walls, and your House will hate you all the more, because old age means weakness, and drow loath Houses where people die of old age, the House is not strong enough to cull the weak.

You would follow orders only if you have no other choice, or if it gives you more prospect of power.

An assassination was bound to certain rules, to keep the drow from erasing themselves from the underdark, otherwise they would have surely done it already.

Thus i say that drow are chaotic, and not lawful aligned.

False. Drows are CE. The stronger lead, the weaker obey. If you don't follow mom's order, you'll soon have assassins against you, if you're not driderized. Unless you think your sister is stronger, and you ally with her to kill mom, so sister shall be new Matron Mother. Or perhaps a rival Matron Mother took you as consort, in order to have his own house to get higher than yours...

But all this is for the common drows. Sick of all this backstabbing, and searching a good leader to unite all those spiderlovers? Play LE! Unable to hunt Svirfneblins because they are just Svirfneblins? Play CG or CN.

Zak used short swords. Try wielding dual rapiers. . . Their light and have a x3 critical.

Actually, rapiers are neither. They can be finessed (as light weapons), but they are medium weapons. Their critical stats are 18-20/x2 (not x3).

Hey. I play a Drow Ranger myself. I've found several websites with generated names and information. If you do a search you will find tons of info. Also, I actually downloaded a Drow name generator offline somewhere. I is VERY cool in that it produces authentic type names, and yes it includes the ever present "ss" and ' that is common in Drow names.

If you've read the books, which I've only read one, then you find that Drizzt is an outcast or hunted. Your character will only be similar in that he/she is Drow and carries two-weapons. That's it. Drizzt was a caring drow, if you can believe that, and despised every ounce of what Drow kin believed in. Which is why he became a surface dweller. So, if you want the best advice and information, go to the best and most sought after place of them all, THE INTERNET. Hehe! Hope this helps out.

Go for piercing weapons; they're easier to use in confined spaces (like tunnels), so I figure that's what most drow would use. My favourite drow character dual-wields a rapier and dagger.

Jezz the lame (or something like that) uses a kukri.
you can find him in the Forgotten Realms Campaigns book.

So does Valas, from the War of The Spider Queen Series, though he also uses a sword, i believe.

I'm pretty sure Valas Hune wields dual kukris.

No I wouldn't be mad at all. Though it would be like Reverse Drizzt, the character would be far enough to be considered nonclone-ish.

Jezz the lame...the coolest character in forgotten realms...Drizzt can go bury himself... Oh don't get the impression that i don't like Drizzt but in comparison...he can go bury himself....
