Ssz'irahc Barri'mtor

Silk serpent, Spawn of the void.

Ssz'irahc was a drow from the outskirts of Menzoberranzan. His parents, were a lot like Drow Gypsies. Xulaer Barri'mtor, an arachnomancer and cleric of Lolth, ran away from her home city Sshmath by the ruling wizards. They viewed her as an usurping female who wishes to reclaim the city back to the matriarchs. Many assasins were sent to the Baari'mtor household and fearing for her life and the honour of the house, Barri'mtor took her closest allies, her lover, her sisters and two of her offspring into exile. Although she no longer lives in Sshmath she rules the Barri'mtor house from behind.

Too proud(smart) to accept help from her allies in Sshmath, she came to Menzoberranzan in search of ways to destroy the ruling wizards of her home city. But she had to prove herself, so disguised as a Drow Gypsy clan she entered her Husband as a mercenary to House Baenre. Her two sisters and her daughter have joined the Arach'Tilinnith as priestesses and have openly declared loyalty to House Baenre. She entered her son; Ssz'irahc as a fighter in the Academy. Although Ssz'irahc was trained as a fighter his mind was far more complex and showed intrest towards the arcane arts.

A very important drow of Menzoberranzan saw his talent. The great Archmage himself; Gormph Baenre. So using his power, Gormph entered Ssz'irahc into Sorcere. Here the young drow excelled but still carried on learning the way of the sword. Xulaer was ecstatic, her son was becoming an important drow and now had the eye of a powerfull drow upon him. Slowly, her entire family was adopted by house Baenre and now enjoy the privleges of being members of the family. Despite all of this, they all remain fiercly loyal and devoted to bringing down the wizard elite of Sshmath. Xulaer's plan is slowly comming into play.

Ssz'irahc himself remains devoted to his mother and bringing down the wizard elite of Sshmath. From an early age he was fed teh ideas of the tyranny and the destruction they have caused. He is a worshiper of Lolth and say's he understands her ways perfectly. He is also extremly close to Gormph (take this anyway you want to ;) ). He is not liked very much in Sorcere for his martial powers and vice versa in the Academy. he often ventures into the Underdark and has become a lieutenant of house Baenre. He commands several riding lizards and is slowly gathering both allies and magical items.

Ssz'irahc acts for both Gormph and his mother Xulaer and will frequently go on adventures on thier whimsy.

I have very few named drow in my campaigns - they are either leaders of the dark elven hordes or they are countless nameless minions.

However, for the named one, I use corruptions of the names of poisons. For example:

Dioxin -- Ddi'ossin
Cyanide -- Ssianeth'ea
Arsenic -- Ssenixxa
Strichine -- Sstrechian
etc.

If I remember correctly in one of the books in the AD&D (2E) Underdark box set there was a list of Drow names and even some of their language. I played a Drow rogue by the name of Veldrin which according to the book was the Drow word for shadow. If some one has it they may send you some or perhaps a foray into the out of print board may be in order

If yo uare a female living in the underdark, there should be a good reason you are practicing arcane magic instead of divine. Did you not have any aptitude for divine magic? and if that is the case, you need to think of a good reason why your matron mother did not cast you out. Typical underdark cities are run by matron mothers of noble houses. If you are of a noble house you would be required to enter the school of Lloth unpon your first menses or at 25 years I believe. The only escape from the path of priestess, at least for a noble female, is death, or renegade status.

If your campaign takes place in Menzoberranzan, your character could be a member of Breagan D'aerthe, a mercenary band now run by a male drow pscion.

I have a drow wizard NPC in my game that was sold into slavery by her matron because she had no aptitude for divine magic. She was sold to a Red Wizard and learned arcane magic from him.

From Plot and Poision, a list of names for female drow are: Kaxanna, Ballistra, Dretta, Levilresh, Quoliathirathay, Ravillien, Sillilzoress, Tarrarun, and Xaniszi. Surnames of Noble Menzoberranzan houses are (in order): Baenre, Barrison Del'Armgo, Oblodara, Faen Tlabbar, Xorlarrin (a highly arcane house that would have rampant arcane talent), Agrach Dyrr (which is secrelty run by a male lich that venerates Vhaeraun), Fey Branche, Tuin'Tarl, Duskryn, Srune'lett, Horlbar, Kenafin, Druu'gir, Hunzrin, Shobalar, Vandree, Symrivvin.

If you want more info on character development, read the war of the spider queen novels. You can borrow them from your local library.

Hope that helps.

I have a pc drow from the segmented city named Tran' toth, no last name, check out different areas and cities, that might help you with your back ground if you know where she was born and raised, not to mention how and by whom. :schemes:
