| dragonlord55706-21-03, 12:41 AM | Okay I know people are going to have me just because of the word "drow" in it. Well before people draw and quater me I'd like to ask for some idea help with my next character who is going to be a drow blackguard. I had an idea of making him a cleric/blackguard but then I couldn't have him use a bastard sword like I wanted. He'll be part of an evil campagin so alignmet NE. I want to aviod streotypes of drow with this character. The big things for him are the bastard sword, heavy armor, and becoming a blackguard. I'd apperciate any ideas to help add flavor to him, unforantly I can't think of ideas that, to me, arn't streotypical of drow or blackguards. Currently I'm thinking playing a fighter and then becoming a blackguard when i meet the requirements. Any ideas to spice this up are more then welcome, also if anyone has any ideas how I could do the cleric/blackguard idea would be apperiated. Thanks for any help in advance |

Such a blackguard should be quite strong and charismatic (and wisdom isn't bad either, especially if you want a clr/blk). Constitution shouldn't be to low, but you can have low Int and Dex (you fight in full plate, anyway). Said fullplate should be black (with symbols of your patron deity, of course), and maybe red. You could wear a full helm or leave your head free. Cleric/Blackguard should not be to difficult: After 8 levels of cleric (which you need to get BAB +6), you can have 5 ranks of hide and power attack, cleave and (improved) sunder. You could also do Ftr1/Clr7 (a female drow could make that without multiclass XP penalties), which would enable you to use the bastard sword (or you just take another level of cleric and use the other feat to get Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Bastard Sword)). |
| dragonlord55706-21-03, 03:14 PM | Thanks for the ideas, deity wise i was thinking Nerul or Hextor due to we're playing in a Geryhawk setting but my DM might let me use one of the other drow deities from FR. Thanks for the help again. |
| KaeYoss06-22-03, 05:02 PM | I strongly advice you to take a drow deity. They aren't really limited to the FR. Both settings have Corellon, Lolth, Garl, Moradin, Yondalla and Gruumsh, and I'm sure I heard something about Sehanine Moonbow being an active elven deity in GreyHawk, plus the 3e Manual of the Planes mentions many other racial deities for non-human races (stating that they are divine servitors, but could be made into true deities). They just aren't included cause they want to keep the standard 3e Stuff simple (and scores of gods isn't simple). About blackguards of drow gods: Ghaunadaur: Would best be CE, for Ghaunadaur is very unpredictable himself. He'd slay clergy of other deities on sight, and plunder and demolish temples and churches of other gods. He should be quite a rebel. Kiaransalee: CE or NE are OK. Make heavy use of your abilities to command undead. Dagger or War Scythe might be other good choices of weapons. He might be questing to become a vampire (or even lich). He could also be very vindictive. Selvetarm: Great Deity for Blackguards. CE or NE. Should be male (females usually worship Lolth instead). Blackguards of Selvetarm are usually extremely warlike, but will obey the priestesses of Lolth without doubt. Vhaeraun: CE or NE are appropriate. He would be on a constant war against the Spider-Kissers, killing priestesses of Lolth on sight and won't be on good terms with worshippers of Lolth or Selvetarm, either. I strongly advertise to make that one a male. He will use as much subterfuge and stealth as he can with the heavy armor. Could be surface-dweller, and will repay any slight thousandfold. Lolth: Seems to be the least suitable deity for blackguards (except Eilistraee, of course, but we talk about the evil deities here). Males are no member of the clergy, and females are usually expected to be clerics (with arachne, divine disciple and hierophant as most commen PrCs). Could be done (I'd rather tend to CE than NE), as a male servant of the clergy (blackguard being a "weaker option for divine magic" that could be entrusted to males) or a female whose powers are more warlike than usual, making her better suited for blackguard than priestess. |
| dragonlord55706-23-03, 06:01 PM | Kwel beans on the deities listing and stuff, that helps alot actually. I think I'm going to go for Vhaeraun, i think that would really do well for the story. Thanks a bunch for the deities. I think me character is going to flesh out well now.:cloud9: <- kinda ironic but whatever ^_^ |
| KaeYoss06-24-03, 08:27 AM | Yes, I'd also advice you to take Vhaeraun as your patron deity: he's the only true deity in the Dark Seldarine, the only one that isn't either a tree-hugger (Eilistraee), a sexist (Lolth), a lap dog (Selvetarm), an advocate of the mindless undead (Kiaransalee - undead are so dull, for they cannot have a decent conversation with you), or just plain weird and insane (Ghaunadaur). You Chose Wisely! |
| DarkBard07-18-03, 03:53 PM | Your drow blackguard could worship Selvetarm (he is "the champion of Lolth" and his symbol is a spider holding a sword). You have to download the Faiths and Pantheons web enhancement or check out Faiths and Pantheons for that god's stats and dogma, but he would be a good choice for that character. |
| Andion Isurand07-20-03, 03:39 AM | How about creating a new LE drow deity that is slowly emerging from the shadows (storyline required)... and your drow blackguard is one of his/her few followers that has been sent on a quest to convert and conqer? |
| stembolt07-21-03, 12:02 AM | My recomendation is to go to the Character Optimization Board and ask there. Then come back here after you have a better idea what you are playing. |
