| Arkham0005-24-07, 10:13 AM | Hi guys, i'm starting an underdark campaign as a DM. The PCs are all noble drows of the 15th house of Menzoberranzan, and they work for it. Theay are 4 males and a female, Lolth cleric obviously. One of the male want to play a Warblade, and since i really love ToB and its flavour, i was thinking how to create a good background for martial adepts that fit with the campaign style. So have you got any idea to insert the 9 disciplines in the drow houses context? Smtg like an ancient traditon of certain houses, not very common among drows etc... This PC(the warblade) is the Weapon Master of the house son, so he didn't learn the disciplines at the drow academy but handed down from his father... So probably only few houses knew this fighting style, inherited from ancients, or "stolen" from their enemis (elves?). And this could also bring some little advantages to the males of this houses between the hierarchy... So i need any suggestion to create a good plot, can you help me? But first of all, do you think is doable? Do you like the idea? thanks :) |

Some disciplines do not go well with the Drow thematically and Game-wise. Stone Dragon immediately comes to mind as one no "well-brought up" Drow would perform. The Desert Wind and White Raven Disciplines don't "feel" very Drow either. The Shadow Hand and Devoted Spirit Disciplines seem to be good combo to build around a Lolth worshipping sect of Crusaders. Diamond Mind seems to fit Drow and their ego very well. Setting Sun does fit the subtle and scheming side of Drow, but Drow are so Aggressive it seems it doesn't fit right. Tiger Claw is great for a two weapon fighting house, and it fit's the Drow's savagery very well. The Iron heart discipline I feel is to good to pass up, but it really should belong to the Hobgoblins and other "surface dwellers". Maybe you could combine disciplines, or make all new ones to fit (a discipline who's key skill is bluff and focuses on shakening and panicking his foes would be fun, a real lone swordsman style) |

Just because the styles were discovered above ground doesn't mean that they couldn't have made their way down to Menzo in ancient texts and scrolls. I like that idea, actually. Either a Drow war party found and defeated a group of high-level martial adepts and three of them found scrolls on the disciplines, and taught themselves. They're now an asset to their House, and teach several worthy pupils. |
