| Zaknafein4360801-09-06, 01:34 PM | Hi all! I was wondering if anyone has a collection of drow names that I may access? I am playing a drow wizard and need a decent name for him. Also, a little help on explaining why a drow wizard would be on the surface would help too. Thanks. |
| Pan_Ai_Khan01-12-06, 08:32 AM | I'm sure there's a cool list of Drow names in the "Drow of the Underdark" book (2.x) Other than that, I'm not too sure. Just make something up that sounds OK. Or keep his 'true' Drow name a closely guarded secret, and give him a nickname. As to a Drow being on the surface, exile (self or enforced) is always one to fall back on. If your character is of a non-evil alignment, it would be the only way to survive. Another possibility is one I have used - your character was part of a raiding party that was wiped out by a surface patrol. Returning to the Drow would mean being killed as a failure anyway, so you swore an oath of servitude (to another member of the 'party') in exchange for your life. |

Or maybe his house was destroyed and he's the last remaining noble and would be hunted down by his family's murderers so that he couldn't act as witness and bring the other houses against the perpetrator. Just think of a reason why some other more powerful drow or house would want to kill him (it shouldn't be that difficult considering the Drow have a Chaotic Evil society). |

As an exiled drow wizard there is a good chance you are not going to want to go by your original name anyway unless you want to risk something hunting you down which is bent on dissolving your viscera with acid. Perhaps you could go by a nickname; a magical word pinched from a spellbook. Inclocus! Daractinol! Agras! Yelfarakan! Stragnal! Eth Askrotraf! Or an anagram (Drawzowird! = Drow Wizard) or pattern; Abefijopur! sounds exotic, but it is just the vowels in order followed by their immediate consonant. Zadehinotu! is the other way around (using Z as previous to A). I dunno... use your imagination, and if you come up with something better further down the track - just change your name, after all, you are traveling incognito and you don't want to be tracked down. "I am The Wizard Gilgatro! Formerly known as The Wizard Hontramidan! Formerly known as The Wizard Madaden! Some also call me Tim!..." Go ahead, confuse your team-mates... "Hey, Arcratix!, what do you make of..." "Shhh! No-one calls me *that* anymore, its Joshbakratan! now, and has been *all my life*" Hope I've been some help. Just remember that wizard names must always end with an exclamation mark. |
