Ok, so I was looking at stuff and I started to think about Paladins and then thinking of Paladins make me think of Grey Gaurds. And I'm like "Wow, a drow paladin/grey gaurd would be the coolest thing ever." So after a while of thinking my ideas on his origin are that he was abandoned(as a baby) for some reason, found by a paladin who raised him like his own son, guiding him on his path to becoming a Paladin. But, he cannot comepletely deny the fact he is naturally drawn to not-so-good-ness and his father notices this and decides to tell him about Grey Gaurds and so he decides to be one, later on in the game.

So I need help deciding why he was abandoned, and just ways to generally improve his background.
Thanks

When he was three months old, a bunch of Illithids attacked his city. Since he's of royal blood, his mother put him in a casket and set him off on the river. The river went aboveground, a paladin found him, and the rest is history. (BTW, his home city was Menzoberranzan.)

This is just a character build suggestion.

Make sure to go into shadowbane inquisitor.

The river went aboveground,

And how exactly does this river manage to defy gravity?

Just have the mother and child flee into the underdark after the attack, she came across a portal and saw it lead to the surface. Knowing that illithids (like drow) never go to the surface, she went through and left the infant outside a random structure, then went back to the underdark.

Turns out the structure was a temple to whatever god your paladin follows.

Maybe he's half-drow,born of an affair between a human slave and a young priestess. The baby and his father were freed by the mother and allowed to escape, when other priestesses found that the child wasn't a draegloth [demonborn] as she had claimed while pregnant and ordered for it to be killed.
The paladins came upon a party of drow chasing a man with a baby and fought them off.The man [father] died of grievous wounds, but the baby was taken in by paladins

lol :D

I like warwinner's idea the best so far. That way, whenever the character did something the other paladins disapproved of, they could go "what would your father think?" or "after all he did for you..."

I like war's idea althought maybe it should be another drow who is not worthy because I just like the idea of being fully drow.

Or the father could be a prisoner of war from an enemy drow house, who was being interrogated and after all info had been obtained, scheduled to be fed to spider-demons
The mother fell in love with this one and lied about how she conceived stating a unison with a summoned demon
The rest is as the half-drow story

*the PC probably will have to fight his mother eventually the way i see it, leader of a surface raid ? can you say moral dilemma :)
