| Zaknafein4360812-12-06, 09:45 AM | Hello all! I am currently considering playing a drow sorcerer from Menzoberranzan and wanted to know basically how I could give him a great back story? I know drow males are usually fighters or wizards. Considering how the drow operate in Menzoberranzan with the schools there, how would I say what House he is from? How he was trained? What the females would think of him (aside from their normal way of thinking)? What would the other males think of him? And would he be from a ruling house or a lesser house? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

So perhaps he can be manifesting power from a bloodline tracing back to a powerful fiend, such as a Draegloth, or even a Shadow Dragon. Stuff like that would make him revered a little more in Drow society, though it wouldn't get rid of ALL the persecution from being Male. That's what would happen in my mind anyway. |

Give him spells like web, spider climb and anything that has to do with poison. The reason most males become wizards is because Lolth will not grant them any bit of her power to become clerics but your character can cast magic without being trained and this is seen as a direct gift from Lolth, the only male to be given such a gift. This may make him almost completely outcast the female clergy if furiious over the fact that their god has chosen a male for this special gift but they fear reprisal from Lolth if they should hurt the chosen male. The male wizards are all angry over not being the one to be chosen but they see him as a way from males to get more power in the future so they seek to use him to this end. Mean while you are unsure what all this means whether or not you are actually a chosen of Lolth and all you want is time to figure it out but you keep getting hammered by requests and petitions for favors from both sides. |

This would make you more of a prize male. You would be treated better than most males in your family because you are special, but you would still be male and therefore treated more like a prize pet. |

How would I do this? Would I have to take the Half-Dragon template to do it? |
| TheAnthroDM12-16-06, 12:31 PM | If you would like to tackle a +3 LA(normal drow LA included) add the Draconic template, your abilities become +2 Str, +2 Dex, +2 Int, +4 Cha and you get natural armor, plus you don't even have to be draconic for it, you could simply attribute it as a gift from lolth, especially if there are no dragons in your family. |
| Werrwaaa12-17-06, 02:29 PM | There is no need to apply a template to claim a draconic or demonic heritage. Sorcerers often claim their magican abilities to be the manifestation of a special bloodline. Just being able to spontaneously cast spells is in-game proof enough for you to claim such lofty relatives. Also, it's worth noting that when i say the character is related to these monsterous creatures, it is often far removed by many generations, as opposed to his direct parents. |
| Werrwaaa12-20-06, 06:00 PM | So, i just picked up Dragon Magic the other day, and in it there is a varient Drow that is descendant from a Deep Dragon. It changes one of his spell like abilities and that's pretty much the biggest change. It doesn't alter LA at all. It would be an interesting way to reflect my above suggestion with an in-game mechanic. Just thought I would bring it to your attention. :) |
