Why? She believes that the sentient/city building races have ruined and tainted the world.
As a child, she was far more intelligent than the other children, and unhappy when forced to associate with them. Because of her dislike of other children her age, she found herself happiest when she was alone in the forest. As she grew older, she saw the forests she once played in disappear into lumber, farms, and houses. This angered her, and she vowed to do something about it. She wandered the world for several years afterwards, training to bring back her beloved wilderness.
The PCs should preferably meet up with her around the time she decides she is ready to undertake the task of regaining the wilderness. When she decided that the time was right, she went to a small village near the edge of a forest. She came at night, sweeping from house to house, leaving no survivors. Afterward, she razed the village, being careful not set the trees ablaze. Once the structures were destroyed, she swept away the ashes with powerful gusts of wind, leaving a barren ground. She then planted several seeds, what would be known as her mark. Then, using plant growth, she grew these seeds instantly, covering any trace of the village. Her work done, she moved on to the next village...

works nicely...

that is until one of the PCs points out that her plan can not work, as she is man and to do that would only be furthering the spread of mans influence (as the eternal forest she desires would have been created by man), in addtion to other paradoxs such as man it's self (and by extention anything it creates) being natural.

FYI insanity functions pretty much the same as the Confusion spell IIRC.

Ahhh, good ol' insanity. Giving a big "screw you!" to logic since the Earth began.

Although, the topic title is slightly misleading. She basically is attempting to remove man's cities, monuments, etc. Furthermore, she's detached herself so much from her species, she doesn't even recognize herself as human.

I was tempted to play this in a Big Bad based campaign, but I never got round to playing it.

The way round "she's a human herself" is that she's fine when humans fit into their part in the ecosystem (as she sees it). Admittedly humans role is to shelter in caves, wearing hides, and occasionally hunt deer with spears (which strangely means she'd prefer adventurers to other people). Those who have gone to far from this ideal deserve death, obviously.

That's basically it. When the PCs meet her, however, she will not have thought this far in her philosophy. I'm toying with the idea of making her go even further off the deep end, and trying to get the old Sphere of Annihilation. I think it really all depends on the campaign. Glad to hear some people like the idea though.

Acctuly I was think of the BBEG going insane when the PC pointed out the flaws in her plan, but that works

Hey gang,

I don't think its the philosophy thats insane so much as the method. I'm sure most druidic sects feel that humanoids have left a terrible scar on the earth, but few of them would consider burning the world the the ground to be the answer.

Sewing seeds hardly makes a "man made" forest. Frankly, she doesn't even need to plant anything if she argues that nature will reclaim ground eventually, in the absense of humanoids. She could also view spells like plant gowth as the actions of nature itself, which is essentially true. As you say, Matt, she may even consider herself to be super human, a mere expression of the forces of nature. Otherwise, she may know that anything she does is tained with her own human essence, but no plan is perfect, and knowing that she can never completely erase the scars left by civilization would really just **** her off that much more. Hell hath no fury like a druidess scorned.

To make her more morally complex, you may have her consider some races, such as elves or perhaps even gnomes to be only borderline offenders who's transgressions could be overlooked with sufficient repentence. When encountering members of those races, she may offer them one chance to repent and live in harmony with nature as do the fae. Naturally she should ruthless with those who disagree, but she may take no pleasure in it. This would show that she's doing what she's doing because she believes it to be correct and necessary, and that she isn't above a modicum of mercy. It should also show the sheer depths of hatred she has for other races who plunder the land they occupy by treating them as though they're subhuman by comparison. Moral complexity is really important in any good BBEG.

I like this idea.
How would she feel about dwarves and their digging?

Well, the real conflict would be that everything on earth is natural. Human cities, dwarven mines, etc. are by extension all because of the way nature guided these races. Or, at least, that's one way to look at it.

And, when you say she's insane, maybe you could complicate it with shades of gray if you like: she should come off as perfectly normal, but perhaps a little aloof. However, her actions would show her instability. To cap it all off, you could give her a good alignment, for in her heart she is convinced, like many villains, that her course of action is in the best interest of humanity, and by returning them to nature, she can stop the wars, the hate, etc. that plagues the world. Or, at least, she believes.

I like the "good aligned" idea. I'm thinking she's decent enough with dealing with people so that she can get by, but prefers her own company.
As for her views on other races and their effect on nature, she basically believes that if large amounts of nature are destroyed to fuel its existence, it does not need to live. For example, although the Tarrasque is "natural", she would be against it. Although the dwarves seemm harmless with their digging, she would still hate it because she sees it as destroying the natural state of the earth.

I love animals, nature, anything to do with it. But isn't wiping out all of mankind a little harsh? Howabout something like changing mans view on things? Not to many human pcs are going to like that lady. Good idea, though:)

I like the idea. One way you could do it is have her be and elven child. Since elves live so long she could have developed her druidic powers yet still have the apperance of being a child. That could explaine her idea of killing people, how often do children do bad, spiteful things when they dont get their way?

Minning and such, although they may be normal developement for a race, is still the destruction of nature and a crime worthy of death.

Larger towns and citys she could attack with a tornado, turn the weather against them. I like the idea of someone who wipes out whole towns and settlements of "evil nature destroying" people.
