| AeternumVaLE06-19-07, 10:45 AM | Fate, such an odd concept, to some it is an inevitable roadblock on the path of life, but to some it is their weapon and whenever the slightest thing changes that could alter their fate, they pounce on the very notion of it. Young Sin was of the latter. Raised in one of the most ancient druid groves around, his fate was obviously sealed as a servant and bender of nature. He was fine with this, and determined his will to not only becoming a druid, but becoming an elder. So, he waited, toned his ability and bided his time until the day when he would show his true skill. His gift for tapping into the powers of the arcane was strong. He had an innate gift. Bothered by this fact was one of the elders, Padriag, Padriag knew that if Sin was this strong at a young age, what would become of him later in life. Padriag liked Syn at first, even gave him gifts, especially one sacred to the earth element. It was a stone, similar to the ones the guardians of the grove carried. Unfortunately Padriag felt threatened. "Was his position in danger, or more important, his honor?" wondered Padriag. Finally the day came, his manmaking, the rite which would make him a initiate into the druid grove and an official man in the eyes of all of the grove, and in his mind, the world. A brutal ritual it was, testing many aspects, and having claimed many young people’s lives. As he passed relatively easily through he first few tests, the final one came. A test of strength, there was a pit that was filled with magically created fire. Sin had heard that 6 of the tribe’s youth had met there demise at this test in the past month, one of his close friends had also. He made a blood bond with this friend, saying they would be friends forever, it was a way of uniting the two into one. His heart beating rapidly, sweat rolling down his face, he looked down at the fire. He saw the face of his friend, not a sad face, but content. He knew that his friend had found peace in the afterlife, the pain that was at his side was replaced by courage, and a sense that he would need to prove his worthiness to having such a friend by passing this test. He ran and jumped over the pit, looking across he saw Padriag utter an incantation, a dark smile filled with malice crossed his face. Feeling weighted down by the hex, Sin was pulled toward the fire. Time slowed, his life flashed before him, and he remembered the teachings of one of the elders in his many lectures. “There are four elements, true druids know how to call upon these elements with great fervor in times of need” was what had been said to him. Sin closed his eyes and uttered the command word for air, “Noscere”. Becoming one with air and calling upon it, he raised himself up, and finished his jump across the pit, an astonished look of utmost hate crossed Padriag’s face, shrouded in the shadow of evil. Undergoing the final ritual in the great house, Sin became an official druid. Later that night, Sin went back to his house slightly drunk from the celebration, the events of the day flitting through his mind at a thousand thoughts per second, the biggest one being “ How will I advance in the ranks of a druid if an elder hates me”. Padriag appeared before him. “Hello, Padriag” Sin said as he bowed deeply. “Hello, One of the Storms” Padriag used the literal translation of Sin’s name, usually only used when you are meeting someone you do not know, or want to know, personally “you avoided me at the ceremony, may I ask why?”. Sin knew that if he accused an elder of placing a hex on him and disrupting the balance of the sacred rite, Sin would not only be accused as a liar, but thrown out of the druid grove. “Oh did I, I was so overcome by the feeling of joy that I must have missed you, is there something you missed out on saying to me?”. With a quick laugh, Padriag brushed by stating “ You know, with me against you, you will amount to cannon fodder in our military, much less a druid, insignifigant one.”. Sin laughed “Oh, you may be bringing me down now, but you,my friend are the one who is insignifigant. I will conquer lands far and wide, you have seen my gift for magic. I will bring irreversible harm to my enemies and great fortune to my friends, and you, I fear may see my wrath sooner than you think. So, although I may be ‘just the one of the storms’ now, you will soon realize I will eventually become more than you could hope to be, more than this grove, more than any of the elders. It is I who’s name shall be spoken in reverence by many, contempt by some, and respect by all. And I fear it is your name who will end up on a gravestone if you continue, O great elder.” The ground beneath Padriag’s feet began to tremor, “ This shall be my grove soon, and you, you shall be the one buried in it”. Padriag simply laughed and quickly reversed Sin’s spell onto him, sin was knocked over. Padriag launched another spell at him, a spell which had seemingly been corrupted, whether by choice or by Padriag's now evident evil soul. Sin called upon the forces of good, as a pure untainted soul, he cried out to dissolve this evil. The bolt of energy was deflected back upon to Padriag, he was signifigantly weakened. Sin slowly stood up and called upon the great elements to banish the taint of evil that had inflitrated the sacredness of the grove. He clutched his stone and began to mutter an incantation. An elemental came forth and engaged Padriag. As they fought, Sin simply walked away, the rest, he would leave to fate. The next day, Sin was tried by a Council of Elders for murdering an elder, and banished from the grove. Sin, not knowing where to go, he went to the city. A place despised by the druids, but he had to. Seeing . Sin approached the man. Sin put down the hood of his druidical white robes, and bowed to the man. The man, introducing himself as malciore, had also been thrown out of . The two shared a great ambition, one that they would both die legends. The two immersed themselves inconversation ,and found much alike between the two of them. Sin saw the glint of cunning of his former friend in Malciore's eyes. As they swore to form the greatest adventuring party ever known to man, Sin felt at peace with his fate, for the rest of his life was now in fate's hands, to twirl and spin as pleased. -This was made for a friend who needed a biography and is into celtic mythos. I tried my best to base some of the original rituals and sayings to Celtic stuff. Please leave any comments you have. |
