| Kaalan07-10-04, 05:44 AM | Kaelan is a young druid that gets his forest and druid mentor/father destroyed by the Sembian army. The Sembian government had long held an agreement with Kaelan's father that the several acres of forest they live on would remain intact. Due to their greed for more farmland the Sembians broke the agreement with some legal loophole. Soon after forest clearers came towards the forest and Kaelan's father delayed their attempts. Thus, the Sembian army was called in. After a valiant struggle in wildshaped bear form, his father was killed in combat. Young Kaelan flees the forest in terror. Between his past experience and over the next several years of visiting cities, he quickly views them as corrupt, unneceesary, and worth his effort to disrupt, if not destroy. He prefers subtle methods over brute force, but doesnt mind rollin' some heads if necessary. Now he finds himself on the coast of the Sea of Fallen Stars, not far from where he once grew up. Little does he know he is soon to meet a band of his future friends. Now he begins his revenge. Kaelan is to be a sort of shifter/spy kinda character. Animal forms for escape and combat, human forms for social engineering. Likely Classes: Druidic Avenger variant(Unearthed Arcana), Shifter(MoTW), and Spymaster(Song and Silence) Alignment: Chaotic Neutral. What do you think of the character idea and his background story? If you like the idea and have good writing skills, feel free to rewrite his story with better style and such :) |

Trust me, you don't need the other classes in order to do what you'd like to do with this character. Those other classes would just weaken your character overall. A DM friend of mine told me a story about how his old AD&D 2nd Ed True Neutral druid layed a whole town to waste with Creeping Doom and an assortment of fire-based spells. It's not a new idea, and I think it would fit the personality of either a chaotic neutral or neutral evil druid. |

If your characters father was a higher level druid, you might want to have him get hunted down and killed in a battle with a few mages (and grunts). A hit squad so to speak. This gives your character 6-12 people to get revenge on... in addition to Sembia. Plus I think its more realistic, a druid wouldn't likely try to kill them in animal form; he'd be more likely to use summoned monsters, traps, & area of effect spells. You might want to mention something about the elves who were none too happy about Sembia intruding on their lands as well (or burning their forest). So you have allies. In addition to the other druids that were in the forest..perhaps others were killed in addition to him...but you still have some allies left (and they are **** hostile towards Sembia). Sembians actually have a history of attacking and destroying forested areas, so that works. I believe that that they banned Elves from their country in 1356/Year of the Worm for this reason. I remember they banned elves in 884, after Sembia hired a mercenary army to take Deepingdale and Battledale in 884 in order to log the Cormanthor's forests; but the mercenaries were slaughtered by elves. |
