My name is Nebins - the human druid pirate that's afraid of water. Raised by forest gnomes I was once abandoned for not being able to cross a river. In my solitude I found my second persona. GAR! I AM A PIRATE!

Pirating on a river means a short lived career... there's nowhere to sail to but upstream or downstream!

Actually, a band of primitive creatures could well pirate the waterways, using not only boats to get at their targets, but also the canopy of the trees that extends over the water. They could swing from vines unto the boat, or throw javelins from the trees.

They could use light, flat two-men barges, and get back on the shore very quickly. Sure, they can only go upstream or downstream, but jungle waterways split into multiple smaller streams that eventually reconnect, effectively creating a maze of streams they could be the only ones to know well. They could easily avoid any opposition.

I suggest your druid wears the skin of a crocodile, and a necklace made of piranha teeth.

I won't ask why a Druid is afraid of water. Or how a Druid is a Pirate, too.

I believe happymoocow has a tendency of posting stuff like this here. It's not for us to ask why or how...

He might be a pirate because in my own expidetions into creating a pirate class a ranger really made the best choice for a base of a combat oriented ranger. So if you wanted a spell caster a druid would make sense. Also he could be afraid of water if he was almost drowned once, its not like hes afraid of anything natrual.

Just beacuse hes a druid doesnt mean he isnt fearful of things. Water is a powerful force of nature in the same vein what self respecting druid woulding fear a tidal wave or a hurrican. I think it a fallacy for us to asume that druids are masters of nature, they serve nature not the other way around. It like say just beacase a paladin or cleric is a servant of the gods he schould have a heathly fear of the amazing power in which those afore mentioned gods weild. On the other hand if it a phioba he developed that is psychological problem and as such can offer same great roleplaying oppertunities as the druid attempt to conquor his fear and become more attuned with nature.

On the issue of the pirate. At first glance it may seem aburd for a druid to be a pirate. However if you look at it this way: the druid is the preditor and the merchants or other victims his prey.

I definately agree with Xill-Lord Psionic Might on the Preditor being the druid thing, but the reason I found pirates and, in my case, rangers to mix is the control over elements. The same can work with a druid, plus there is a bit more power over the elements, although probably alittle less boarding too.

Guys (or gals), happymoocow comes in once in a while to post wild character ideas. My reply was meant in jest because he/she hardly comes back to post on how he/she would like the character developed (or even to defend his idea as to why it would work).

Please don't read too much into my one liner about how pirating does not work along a river.

If you want to go ahead and develop the character, by all means. Care to give the druid a more detailed background?

:)
