Basically, our DM said 'no alignment', so fun is ensuing. Anyway, I came up with a really cool concept: a Paladin/Druid. Thing is, I don't have a great idea of how these would mesh story-wise. Anyone got any ideas? I figured Ehlonna would be a good deity choice for the nature aspect and she is Good.

A Paladin/Druid would be more martial than the typical Druid due to the Paladin progression. She is raised as a warrior of the groove due to less inclination in druidic teachings, but her passion for the wild and nature is no less fierce than any of her less martial peers. Being passionate for nature, she gains certain fervor when entering combat and almost seem to be fearless, affecting her companions in similar manner (Aura of Courage). Some in the groove also view as a "Chosen of Ehlonna" or at least an acceptant of Her grace (Divine Grace).

Her druidic training is held back somewhat by her lack of affinity with magic perhaps, or some quirk in the wondrous working of nature. Given time, she can pick up the spells and supernatural shifting abilities like any student of the groove.. but she'd as likely pick up a scythe and charge into the fray.

A sense of justice, honour and rightousness seperates her somewhat from the typical views of the groove, but she follows traditions and observes that balance is as, if not more, often the "better" way.

A paladin typically aligns with a more city-like organization, shifting this focus to a druidic order places the character into a more ranger-like position, but not necessarily having the same feel. I tend to view paladins as some sort of a paragon of rightousness and and a warrior of virtue, showing courage, compassion and honour to friend and foe alike. Most "wild" classes tend to move either really fast, and/or stealthily within the forest, which gives them the edge. Perhaps this character chooses to confront nature's foes differently, in straight challenges more often, and when its not foolhardy to do so. Wildshape and spells will aid the character in the usual way.

As you can see with the above, I have more of a focus to change the paladin to a "wild" feel than giving the druid a more "city" feel. The ranger and a "paladin of nature" would play differently. But a cleric and a "druid of the city" would probably blur the line quite fast if play is not done carefully.

Just my 2 cp.

If your playing without alignments.. both the druid and paladin both kinda loose their main characteristic factors. The paladin is a lawfull warrior who strives to uphold the law against all infractions, while at the same time is the greats becon of good around.

The druid can be just as good or just as lawfull as the paladin, but has to maintain neutrality in one aspect or the other.

There are actually a few non-LG paladins around, you could choose to be like a NG paladin/druid or a LN paladin/druid, which would still make sense.

If you were gonna loose one of the alignment restrictions for the paladin, id say lawfull. Too many of their abilites rely on them being good (smite, aura of good, turn undead etc)

Apart from that, its all good. Perhaps they take on a sort of ranger role, a holy warrior for nature. Get some sort of thing were instead of a special mount, any animal you wild shape into gains the celestial creature template or something.

I dunno... tis a complicated idea, but it can work.

Perhaps something based on King Artur story:
In your land, the old religion (druidism) is being replaced by worship of the New Gods. But your nation is facing something incredibly evil; so you decide to dedicate yourself to both the old and new religion, earning the animosity of both, but being respected by the leaders of both religions.
