| Drag0nUL02-10-07, 09:57 AM | I am about to start playing in a new campaign and I was thinking to play a dwarf barbarian. However I don't have too many ideas about how a dwarf barbarian's background should look like. Any ideas would be appreciated. |
| club2bash02-10-07, 01:39 PM | Dwarf berserkers aren't uncommon, the first thing to think about is his rank in the family, or whether or not he was raised with dwarves. |
| BreegJac1702-11-07, 11:28 AM | His clan slipped into barbarism after long , endless, wars with gobliniods, orcs and giants. |
| philnicau02-11-07, 06:05 PM | When he was a young child his clan was slaughtered by an army of Orcs/Goblins/Ogres and he was the only survivor, he was found and raised by a childless human couple who had difficulty controlling his rages (no doubt brought on by recalling the death of his clan) so they arranged him to be fostered to a local barbarian tribe, who taught him to channel his rage into combat. |
| Tjuk02-12-07, 04:48 AM | Or play a dwarfen outcast, doomed to walk the planet, fighting evil doers for a act that he has done to his people. Damned to die in a fearsome battle, to get his honor back. Sort of Gotrek story, of the gotrek & felix novels from warhammer |
| RurrikLoderr02-12-07, 10:32 AM | maybe he's a young dwarf that was abandoned by his parents (killed, captured, w/e), and he was taken up by a (monster) tribe, and taught him their ways (perferabley a BABARAIN monster tribe) |
| Moosh Nailo02-13-07, 01:06 AM | One word: Gutbusters. If you're fortunate enough to have read R.A. Salvatore's most excellent works, then you know exactly what I'm talking about (basically any of the books with Bruenor, Drizzt and the gang). A special unit of dwarf barbarians, part of the larger Clan Battlehammer. The rest of the dwarves just stare in wonder when the gutbusters go to work. Background, from what I've gathered, is they go through "specialized" training, designed to make them tougher (and dumber, while we're at it ;)), while still being a close-to-regular clan member. Viewed by other dwarves with both humor and respect, bordering on incredulity. P.S. some people will probably argue they aren't barbarians, seeing as they wear heavier armors, but I remain convinced. |
| club2bash02-25-07, 09:43 PM | actually that's a good idea, there's a prestige class for that, perhaps he wanted to join the gutbusters but he didn't pass their tests, so now he wanders the earth to gain skill so that he can become worthy of joining the gutbuster ranks. |
| Fithero02-26-07, 03:40 AM | yeah, in the novels the gutbusters were sort of a gang of grapplers that would just jump apon foes and shred them apart with their armor... that or charge at them with their pointed helmets (get the pwent?... hehe:P) Anyway, i dont think any of them ever really used weapons... you could go the guttbuster prc and the reaping mauler prc from complete warrior if you want... just wear a suit of enchanted medium armor (makes it light, still gain the class benefits). If you not looking at going the gut buster way, then perhaps your from a clan of barbaric dwarves that never really advanced. Instead of being an outcast rager... your entire clan is like you. You could go wild dwarf and still live in the forests and all that... or perhaps your from a clan that lives in the underdark and is more of a nomadic tribe than a static mining community. Hope this helps Peace |
