| sheik111612-13-06, 01:41 PM | Me and my buddies are making a campaign, and plan on beating the Worlds Largest Dungeon. My DM is very particular about background stories, and how your character is played with them. He doesn't want a rogue who has spent their whole life as a thief, suddenly wanting to rush into battle and not actually play as a rogue would. I myself, have a problem with background stories, and especially for classes and races I don't play with much. I've never played a dwarf, nor have I ever played a cleric. So far for my character I have decided on a few things: -I want him to be a blacksmith. Dad was a blacksmith, and he took up a liking to it, but likes the cleric lifestyle better. So basicly good in crafting and such. -I also am a Lawful Nuetral cleric of Moradin, with the earth and war domains. I'm pretty sure the war domain is not for a cleric of Moradin, but my DM says if anyone can make a great arguement for why something should be the way it is, we can have it like that. And why shouldn't a dwarf of moradin have the war domain, cmon! -For my cleric, it's going to all be about defense. Healing, and tanking. We're in a dungeon that is sealed the second we step in the door so theres no getting back out for healing or anything. Now, could anyone help me with why a Dwarf that lives in a mountain and is a blacksmith, suddenly want to be a cleric of moradin and leave his mountain? Please do not give me a reply like... A DIVINE QUEST. I realize that he's off and about to go do something, I just need a reason why he would want to leave the mountain and be a cleric. Just basicly help me spark ideas and such for a background story... please :) |

Dwarves have been and will always be creatures of tradition as such father expects son to take up after him in his lifes work. Sometimes the son does not always take after his father or does but in his own way. Our dwarf knew from an early age he would be called to do great things although he never knew how he was going to do them as a blacksmith. It wasn't until he heard a particular preacher of Moradin that he knew his lifes work would be in services of his god. OUr young dwarf nearly broke his fathers heart saying he wanted to join the clergy but his father was partially placated when his son told he he wished to smith for the church in honor of Moradin. After many years in the service of the church using his clerical abilties to aid him in his smithing he realized that as good as he was sometimes his armor would break and his weapons would fail and he couldn't have this on his conscience. He would make armor and weapons for the church but only if he could test them himself in battle before allowing them to be used by others. After praying to Mordain for guidance the cleric and recieving some he was given the title of Holy Defender of Moradin and as a special gift given access to spells not generally allowed to others of Moradin's worshippers (the war domain). The Cleric now plies his trade where he smiths new and interesting weapons and armor on the battle field and then uses them himself in defense of his people before saying they are ready to be used by the general army. |

His clan always had warlike attitude, rivaled only by their devotion to Moradin (or, as Dad always said, Soulforger). Clan's young all train as combatants. Even those qualified as future clerics have martial training. But versatility is one of the pillars of victory, and some warrior-priests of your clan have very special training - they train to fight on the surface. Training of yours was more classical - tunnel war, sapper work and rebuking earth monsters. :) Your PC was aspired by the example of Soulforger - warrior must forge his own arms and armor by himself, fight by himself and inspire allies by his own example. After becoming succesful cleric of Moradin, your PC met greatest challenge ever - full decade of peace. No more goblin incursions (your clan make sure of that), no more surfacers raids... Making things is good (Craft magical arms and armor will be even better), but cleric with such training must wage war, or all his study in Moradin's name go to waste. (quote from some anime) It is utterly inexcusable! So, your young cleric go with church's blessing to seek just conflict for the Moradin's glory, to seek and fight evil denizens of the earth, to improve his skills and prove his devotion to Soulforgers' faith. Maybe, he want to create great weapon against his enemies, may be he want to learn how to build great iron gates to shield his clan's stronghold - it can be varied. Of course, your PC prefer battles and missions at which he can excel. Namely, underground warfare and dungeon crawl. Hope, it helps (and sorry for poor english). |
