My dwarf's mountain clanhold was lost to goblinoids when he was a child and most of his clan was slaughtered. Those who survived have either traveled to other clanholds, taken up residence in human cities, or have lived as nomads in the mountain passes near their former home, trying to gather strength in order to retake their ancestral home. I want this character to be a survivalist and a tough warrior... and was thinking Barbarian/Fighter. How would you build such a character? Any ideas are welcome (but try to use only core classes and DMG PrCs). thanks... |

You survived by calling on primal insticts or the wisdom of your ancestors(take a few levels of Barbarian, these two options wouls explain where the rage comes from). Linving in the wilderness you began observing the animals around. Some you befriended and the more ferocious you observed. You learned the keys to survival and how to track your prey. The outdoors speak to you giving you all you need to survive. (Take a few levels of ranger) Eventually the urge to know your people arrises, when you see a family of dwarfs passing near you one day. You head to a nearby city to learn more of your past and your dwarven ways. (Now in a civilized environment you can "train" and learn from soliders. Take some levels in Fighter) Hope that helps... Could be an interesting build. Other than ranger, you could maybe put in Druid, that would be cool too, but then your going to miss out on the higher level spells so its not worth it. When your ready to retake your homeland or have done so pick up levels in Dwarven Defender :D |

As far as what classes would fit the background you describe, I think fighter/barbarian would be good. Maybe throw in a few rogue or ranger levels if you want to be able to sneak around. Depending on what you want your emphasis to be at later levels, King of the Wild might be good, from MotW, if you want to focus on mastery of your environment. For 3.5 core PrC's only, maybe the Horizon Walker... I think that's the name. |
