So far I figure that he was formerly part of an experimental special forces type group for his clan. One visionary member of the council saw a recent increase in the amount of children exhibiting sorcerous powers and decided to put them to use serving the council. His ideas were generally not well regarded due to the magic-suspicious nature of many dwarves. Through political maneuvering and called in favors, Grimm managed to gather up the children and put them on a rigorous training schedule developing both their combat ability and their sorcerous powers. After years of training, they were put to the test when roving Orc marauders attacked an outpost. All but five were dispatched along with a unit of normal dwarven troops to assist the outpost’s defenders. The councilman led the charge. Every dwarf was slaughtered and the outpost was lost. Blame fell upon the councilman and his special unit. His unit was dissolved and anyone associated with it was looked down upon and treated as second class. Roth has left his clan searching for traces of what really happed that day. What do you guys think? |

The idea of the character going back to try and find out what really happened on that day is interesting, although I think that it will require a lot of cooperation from the DM to make it part of the campaign plot. If it isn't then you'll need to come up with a pretty convincing reason why this dwarf is just off adventuring with some random adventuring group. My next question pertains to his "second class" status. Does this mean he is recognised at a personal level (such as the fact that other dwarves will say: "Hey! Isn't that <name> of those treacherous sourcerers?") or does he have some special mark, that distinguishes him (for example, a ring, staff, or tattoo)? I guess it depends a lot on the society and environment too. Feel free to elaborate, of course! |
