| Fithero07-15-07, 09:21 AM | The following character was inspired by Karish's thread about Mercenary quotes! The Creed is Greed When he came of age, Thaim found himself to be the youngest dwarf that went with an expedition to start a new clan home in a distant land. The journey to their destination went smoothly and the group arrived quicker than expected, which put them all in high spirits. The mining began underway, and in a few short weeks they were already living underground and looking for their rumoured veins of gold. Thaim often found himself at odds with the rest of the new clan, too young and often lacking experience to work well with the others. The others began to joke about him and pick on him, often ganging up on him. You'r the worst dwarf i've ever seen. Are you sure your not a gnome? Thus he often found himself doing the jobs nobody else wanted to do. He was sent out to chop and collect fire wood, a task which took him all day and well into the night. When he came back, he found that the bodies of his clansmen littered the stone floor of their new home. The most common cause of death was a clean thin slash across the neck, while more than a few were not even in one piece. He looked around the newly formed mine to find a great hole that lead into a new cave complex. Standing inside the cave complex was a drow, or what Thaim had heard to be a drow. The drow took off his ridiciously large hat and gave a ostentatious bow, the hats great feather dragging along the ground as he did so. The drow said that he was sorry that he had been forced to kill Thaim's clansmen, but they were digging too close to his operations. Nothing personal, it's just business Thaim admitted that he wasnt as bothered by their deaths as much as he should have been, then asked if was going to be killed. Do as you please, you're your own master. The drow said that it was up to Thaim, so he simply turned and left. He could hear the drows laughter even as he left the mines. Thaim wandered the wilderness for several weeks, surviving on his own, until he came across a town. *** Thats where the game will begin. Thaim is a chaotic neutral dwarven scout, who will eventually be a scout5/ combat trapsmith5/ bloodhound10. His main purpose in life is the aquisition of wealth, he has no concern with gaining fame or power. He will take part in the parties adventures but will not consider himself to be part of the party, just a hireling. Ill be using alot of the quotes that were given on Karish's page and yeeep... you guessed it. Thaim will be using a crossbow too :P As for the whole bounty hunter aspect, i think he will view it as the easiest way to gain money quickly (The whole risk vs. gain aspect). This guy has a deffinate goal in mind, to aquire a certain amount of gold pieces and then retire somewhere. (also, what would be a good amount of gold to retire on?) What do you all think? |
| warwinner07-15-07, 02:56 PM | The setting up is excellent, gave me some wonderful ideas, but some things i felt were so-so Instead of being picked on by other dwarves, try something like this, IMHO fits better with the "mercenary" and "quick and easy wealth" character This guy was young and lazy and greedy and didn't like working his ass off at the mine, so he was always finding excuses to go off somewhere [thus gathering firewood etc which he thought was way better than working 10-15 hours in a dark hole]The leaders eventually confronted him and gave him warning that if he didn't live upto "dwarven" standards, they'd kick him out and he'd be alone in this new land As to the drow, doesn't seem drowish [jarlaxleish, but not drowish] So how about something like this, terror - not business is the way of the drow :) One evening he returned from gathering firewood, and he heard sounds of battle. He saw his clansmen fighting with darkskinned creatures. Instead of going to help, he hid and watched the carnage unfold. His clansmen were slaughtered to a dwarf. He hid for hours until all was clear and the attackers had left.He looked over the corpses of his kin, what caught his eye was not their faces twisted in agony, but the gold spilling out of their pockets, which he quickly cleaned up. Then he saw it, some assailant must have forgotten it,sleek and elegant He had seen it used to deadly effect - A crossbow He picked it up and thus began their journey together ......... |
| Fithero07-15-07, 09:12 PM | As to the drow, doesn't seem drowish [jarlaxleish, but not drowish] thats because it was jarlaxle.... But i do like your other idea, i want the character to be totally undwarven like :P cheers |
| warwinner07-16-07, 02:25 AM | Yes i knew, given the feather and well "jarlaxle" characteristics. But jarlaxle isn't the typical drow, who i feel will better fit in this story |
| Karish07-16-07, 11:52 AM | -Blink.- Someone was inspired by my merc? YUS! You get a :cookie: cause you pwn like that. |
| Fithero07-16-07, 11:58 AM | Sweet... a cookie :D Im set on his personality and outlook on life but im not sure on his background as of yet, i like Warwinner's ideas though! Anyone got any other ideas for this 'out-for-himself' dwarf? |

Anyone got any other ideas for this 'out-for-himself' dwarf? I'm basically thinking along the same ideas as Warwinner has. But unless you do change it to a crossbowman and he uses that thing for a weapon, you'll have to consider: Why in the hells would he use one? |
| Fithero07-16-07, 11:26 PM | But unless you do change it to a crossbowman and he uses that thing for a weapon, you'll have to consider: Why in the hells would he use one? Easy, dwarves use crossbows :P You cant carry a bow and fight with it underground in those tight and confined spaces. Way to much trouble. Just have the crossbow loaded and ready to shoot the bolt into some poor fools leg :P |
| warwinner07-17-07, 02:06 AM | Or the awesomness with which the drow used the crossbow to slaughter his clansmen won him over  |
