Dwarven Palladin - useless horse?! [Archive] - Wizards Community

Due to the dwarves typical disdain of animals including horses, the palladin's mount would seem to be of little use for a typical dwarf. Thus my question is does anybody have any ideas on how to either explain why my dwarf is 5 feet of the ground on horseback, or an alternate "gift" or power for a dwarven pally.
In other words; to make up for the uselessness of the mount what else might a dwarven palladin get

Use the horse as a pack mule, or as a seperate combatant, maybe a badgerey undergorund denizen?

Instead of a mount, see if you can get a similar sized/power animal companion which fits the character/god.

Get a wart hog or something. Thats very dwarvish.

I agree although I would have said a wild boar or razorback. It sounds cooler. Or have him ride a modified boxer/pitbull breed or a st. bernard if your DM allows. I'm sure there must be an dwarven equivalent to horses.

If you can still use 3.0, look into Defenders of the Faith or alternate mounts. I think there is another alternate list out there but don't remember where.

I'm pretty sure that the gold dwarves of the Great Rift ride griffins and I also belive griffins are on the alternate mounts list in Defenders of the Faith

They actually use hippogriffs

Also in Races it says that shield Dwarves use Dire bats for mounts when on the surface, and I would allow that with a slight penalty like the Druid/Ranger alternate companions.
