| Drac08-08-07, 01:44 PM | Hey all. Had a quick question I was hoping to get some advice on. I have a character in our current Eberron game who will soon be given a chance to completely remake himself (Some racial options and any class options), and I wanted to preserve a certain theme with the character in his new life, so I am now desperately looking for class ideas. The background: Currently the character is a half-vampire working as a necromancer (True Necromancer PrC from Liber Mortis) in the service of Vol. He is a plant in the group looking to kidnap another PC and bring her to Vol (Vol suspects her of having an inkling of her bloodline). The character was raised from childhood in Vol's service (albeit not directly) and as such has never really learned the concepts of good and evil as most people would see it. He serves Vol faithfully because he believes the 13th house should be brought back in order to achieve balance. He knows being a half vamp is seen as bad by most people and knows enough to hide it, but isn't really as angsty about it as most would seem to be. In the course of his adventures with the group he has met a demon who has somehow been denying her heritage for some time now, and functioning as a neutral good knight in Eberron. He started having a few philosophical discussions with her, and unfortunately the two's viewpoints started to shift towards each other. She started feeling more demonic urges and he started looking more at his actions and the ramifications they have on others. In the end, the two are undergoing a pilgrimage of sorts to find out who they really are. In this he will find out Vol has more or less screwed him over (not sure how yet) and will be given the opportunity to remake himself completely. Presumably the demon will as well, though the jury is out on which way she will go...dark or light. For him I want to preserve the whole monster trying to learn how to be more human progression, so I think I'm going to go dark, at least initially. The DM suggested I use a class that has an inherent form of evil or darkness that can be turned to nonevil purposes eventually as the character learns and grows. The crunchy bits: We are level 12 characters. The DM said I could remain a half vampire, or choose to become either a full vampire or a full human. The Vampire template has certain.....issues when playing with a party of mortals, so I'm likely going to stick with half vamp, which is a +3 LA template. The character is one of the only wizards in the group, and with 9 levels to play with I am at least first looking at wizard PrCs. Necromancer is still available, but the DM warned me that the character's feelings on Vol would be changing because of this in ways that will probably involve his losing his faith. Also, the nonevil members of our group have kind of frowned upon my raising armies of undead, as helpful as they may be. :) So I'm essentially looking for any ideas anybody would have on another PrC I can use to show his inner darkness (to help the demon if she goes bad or to act as a foil if she doesn't, and to give him something to fight against), preferably a PrC that allows advancement of wizard spellcasting. The only real books the DM doesn't allow in the entire d20 lineup is the Tome of Battle (our Eberron campaign is a bit regulated on power level) and any Forgotten Realms stuff (I could possibly talk him into FR content with a really good reason behind it). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

But there is this http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=599129 While your here though, I see nothing wrong with turning against Vol while keeping your faith. The blood of Vol isn't an inherently evil faith, it just happens to be manipulated by Vol who is unkown to just about everyone. Dreaming Duck reffered to the blood of Vol faith as "anne rice meet ayn rand". |

Believe me, this game favors flavor over power in every respect. :) I will, however, give the necro handbook a looksee. If there are ways to adventure with a generally CG-heavy party as a necro I may keep him as-is for classes. Interesting point about the Blood of Vol. I think we are all (GM and group) currently assuming the larger religion is centered around her as being its goddess, and if one turns against the goddess, one turns against the faith. Unfortunately he's also an agent she checks in on fairly regularly. On an aside, being an active agent of the person you are PRAYING to makes for a really nice, secure way to deliver reports. ;) |

Also the blood of Vol Theology is about finding the divine with in, and not worshipping some external force, the gods of the soverien host are seen as false. So even if the adherants to the blood of Vol were aware of Vol's existence, they wouldn't worship her, at least until she becomes a god. By checking in on, I assume you mean scrying, Vol is a half-dragon elf lich wizard 12, not a goddess, she does not actually hear people's prayers, unless she built some sort of eldritch machine. |

None of them teach anything like what you have known all your life. You have become something of an outsider yourself and are now searching for anything you can relate too. Alternatively consider the possibilty of a specialist wizard. Abjurer works quite nicely. You feel alone and deserted after leaving Vol. You don't know yet that you can rely on those you have chosen over her and yet do know that you can't ever go back to the life you had. You feel the need to protect yourself at any cost because there is noone else you can trust to do so. As a side note this will work out nicely later on if you decide to start trusting the group more since you will be specialized to protect them as well as yourself. |
