For those unfamiliar with Eberron: - Elves come in three main flavors: the Aerenal, Valenar and khorovar. Aerenal and Valenar come from elf dominated nations while the khorovar have long since assimilated into the human dominated culture of the main continent Khorvaire. - Khorvaire was united under the Kingdom of Galifar for around 900 years until, about a century ago (campaign time) a war of succession broke out and the kingdom effectively divided into 5 nations. The Last War went on for 98 years ending only with the cataclysmic and mysterious destruction of one of the five nations, and the signing of a treaty. - The former kingdom's capital was a small island of Thronehold, roughly in the middle of Khorvaire, that was largely abandoned (by the 5 nations) and left neutral during the War. The main settlement on the island is Throneport, which declined then grew into a small city, dominated by dissidents and lawless types unaligned to the 5 nations. - Eberron has relatively (to other campaign worlds) few high level characters and the few around 18th level are among the most powerful, if not famous, in all the world. I picture my new (CG) character to be independent and unaligned with any of the Five Nations. A young adult when the Last War broke he believed in the ideals of Galifar and remains loyal to his memory of that nation, hopeful that it can one day be rebuilt. My dilema: how could he have remained independent from the five nations during decades of continent-wrecking civil war and grow to become one of the most powerful individuals in the world, without taking part in the battles of the civil war? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |

For you that hundred years of war was something to look into later if you got the chance. Instead you were busy with real threats to the world. You most likely were hunting demons and working beside quoatl though there are other options. You may have left the material plane behind and have traveled through time on Thelanis the faerie plane. You may have left for the plane of battle whose name escapes me at the moment and have lived a life of constant challenge gaining power simply became neccessary to survive (this works best if you knew of some future threat that you would need this power to beat.) There is always the Dal Quor and you may have spent your time ducking and eventually slaying giants to learn the secrets of how they forced a plane off its rotational axis. Last there are the dragons and that most likely ends in the "but I won't say what they taught me" type mystery that usually comes off as cheese. As for the ideals of Galifar I'd carefully spend much off my time trying to determine who the legitimate heir is now that Cyre is gone. The queen should have been on the throne de facto and now you don't know which nation has the right. What's more you want not only legitemacy but also someone who holds to the old ideals and these seem to be long gone now. |
