One of my female players is using a gnome Bard for an Eberron setting. She is not familar with the setting and is wondering what would be good background ideas. I don't have time to flesh them out entirely myself but here is her characters starting statistics:

The background in Sharn is optional, could also be the Gnome nation Zilargo.
If you can post pointers or ideas for a backstory that would be great and ill flesh them out.
As a hint we play realitively 'vanilla' d&d and she likes 'drama'. So no gods/dragons or anything powerful. But greed, broken hearts etc are a good thing.
Any suggestions would be nice, then ill develop from there.

Thank you :D

I had an idea for a gnome character, but he was a wizard.

I was thinking of a jeweler/gemologist who grew up in his family's gemcutting business and grew fascinated with the stones at a young age when his father showed him what a magic one looked like up close. He's a bit of a goofball and certainly not serious about much of anything (at least on the surface) except finding his next stone, with the hope that he'll one day get to study one as extraordinary as the one his father showed him that day. To kill time, he's learned music and some illusion spells and takes great delight in exploiting the stupidity and naivety of monsters and enemies when they fall for his tricks and illusions - or under the spell of his growing musical vocabulary.

Sadly, one day the magic gem was stolen from the shop by an unknown robber during a midnight break in, and he has no idea who took it, why, or how they knew where his father kept it hidden. He's a little ****** about it and that's where his adventurous spirit comes from: the search for new gems (and THAT gem in particular) and maybe being lucky enough one day to find the bastard who stole it and exact revenge by making them look rediculous...preferrably in public. He has wanderlust now and is comfortable travellling, knowing he can make a living anywhere with his stonecutting and jewelry making skills. He doesn't adventure for reward money or for the politics of others and often will agree to a hook on only on the condition that he keeps whatever gems the party finds. Gold and weapons don't interest him much. They weigh too much, slow him down and are downright boring compared to the world he viewed inside the magic stone.

He's hoping one day, if he can't find The One Gem, to at least replace it for his father with something equally or more spectacular and mysterious. His fondness for his music is growing greater by the day, especially as he humorously begins to notice the odd effect(s) it has on others. He likes to laugh, poke fun, play practical jokes and watch others act foolish. In an odd way that he doesn't even realize, he thinks he's smarter than everyone else and sometimes subconsciously goes about proving it, both in his dialogue and with his actions - yet he means no real harm and gets surprised when he manages to anger the victims of his "jokes".

He's just a bit of a self-absorbed smartass who takes little seriously outside of gemstones and, to a lesser extent, music.

I don't know enough about Eberron to flesh out the geography for you, but I think there might be an interesting and playable character somewhere in there for you.

Just my 2 copper.
