Hi guys

I need some thoughts on my character background/style. My character is a male 3rd level human rouge(1) / ranger(2) in the Eberron campaign setting.

The concept is a charismatic treasure hunter, who is able to talk himself out of almost any situation. He is a

survivor, and no situation is hopeless. He has a very wide skill selection. When he is not adventuring, he earns a moderate living by telling stories at taverns etc, only he's not very good at it.. ;)

He has a love for magic items, the weirder the better. This is what makes him go treasure hunting. He has been travelling for several years, and has a modest collection of weird magic items:
- Bottle of magic detection (when you spin the bottle it will point at whatever magic is strongest)
- Salt of amazing cleaning (cleans _any_ stain on your clothes)
- Bush of bitter berries (the berries taste awful, but grow back in 1 day)
- Needle of mending (fixes holes etc in any cloth)
- Beard of disguising (+1 to disguise checks when posing as bearded man)

The war finally caught up with him in the city of Sharn, where he was enrolled in the army. He has been working as a scout for about a year now. The war is now over, and he is on his way home to Sharn.

He has the Least dragonmark of finding, with the ability to Identify 1/day. This has helped him in earlier treasure quests.
- Could someone suggest some way this could be written into his background?

He is a skilled archer and scout, but his many social skills are the most important part of this caracter. I find these two apects to be in conflict with each other.
- How can I have both an experienced woodsman and a fast-talking, streetwise rouge in the same character?

- Also, can anyone suggest a name? :)

hmmm, something dashing, but since he's dragonmarked he's got a tie to house Tharashk (or however you spell it) lemme think...

Erix d'Tharashk
Canin d'Tharashk
Roan d'Tharashk
Sebastian d'Tharashk
Perryn d'Tharashk

if i type "d'Tharashk" one more time to night i may vomit...

Sorry, I don't know anything about dragonmarks. But The Brat Prince's post let me think it is somewhat hereditary. So you might be a noble's bastard son. You could be a lesser noble, either by being the eldest son of a duke's far cousin, or by being yourself the 6th son of this same duke; nothing really involving, but if 5 or 6 key person die, you suddenly becomes the Heir.

Once again, being part of the nobility could explain the thing. A noble must be able to negociate pacifically, but he must also be able to defend himself and his subjects. Swordmanship and diplomacy are both basic in a noble learnings. But being a lesser noble could make you closer to the commoners. You could have developped some friendship to the Master Hunter of the region, or perhaps to his son who is the same age than you. You could have developped a taste for poker and other games, making you closer to the Thieves Guilds. You didn't lost your money as fast as the thieves might have wished, so you gained their friendship. However, you finally loose your familly's money, and you became a treasure hunter.

Thankyou, Brat Prince, Sebastian is a perfect name for my character! :-)

The "lesser noble" background with the hunter friend, swordsmanship training as a youth, and a gambling, drinking crowd as friends, suits the character well. It is a wonderful idea, and solves all my problems. :D Thanks a lot Morka.
