| The Brat Prince01-05-06, 01:53 AM | A friend of mine is going to be running an eberron-based game here in a bit. It's going to be set in Sharn, Stormreach, and Xen'Drik. We get to start at level four and i've a pexculiar fondness for multiclassed fighter/mages. The idea i have thus far is that of a sort of spellword-for-hire with a heart of gold ( i know it's kinda cliched but that's what y'all are here for.) He's got a tiny office in Sharn that he almost never visits, preferring the more relaxed attitude of Stormreach. In mannerisms, i want him to be kind of cocky without being overly irritating about it, a sort of total self-confidence. With all that in mind, would you lovely folk mind helping me flesh this bad boy out? |
| DM_of_Darkness01-05-06, 08:49 PM | I don't no anything about Eberon but I am an aspiring fantasy author so here are some ideas: >make your mage/fighter lawful neutral so as to represent a good nature but to alow the flexibility of payment >have him be a from a long line of spellwords-for-higher (with a reputation [positive or negitive] which opens up a whole nother type of event to do with predjudist customers)who suffered a tragic accedent in his youth (such as the loss of his family to a fire started by an old enemy which also allows for a predetermined recurring character) which spurss him to help others in there time of need >have him say lots of things like if we all were responsibe for those within our sight everyone would have sinned, and I am a master in such maters and shall show you the proper soloution, or Of course I can do it, you shurley would not doubt me if you but knew what I know > when interacting with other characters have him act as if superior for example Step aside I can do it corectly >mind you these are very basic ideas also if I apear arogent I dont mean to be I know I'm not better than you, I know I can't spell Those who think they know everything anoy those of us who do |
| Harrow Blade01-05-06, 09:38 PM | I like Dm of darkness' idea of a lineage bringing with it a reputation but I have a diiferent take on it. Your father was a sell sword, no magical talent at all but good at what he did and a friend to many, yet he died on the job and your mother was grief stricken. She grew to fear that you would grow up to be just like your father and so apprenticed you to a local mage. After a year or so of training your master tells you he can no longer teach you as your mother has no more money and is unable to pay your fees. it turns out that your mother, desperate to keep you away from the sell sword life had used up all the family money and borrowed heavily to support your training. You can't just sit around and waych your mother starve herself to save you so what do you do? You take up your fathers sword and do as he and his fathers before him, selling your sevices to pay for the debts your family has acrued. The difference this time is there is magic behind the sword and maybe that will be the difference between a long life and an early grave. |
