Ah, a new character. I love the feeling.

Well, in this case, I'm playing a Cleric in a game online. She's a follower of the Silver Flame, and considers herself a bit of a detective type. She'll likely end up going into Expert for some skills, and then Master Inquisitor.

She's native to Thrane, and grew up there. She's been a follower of the religion since before she knew what it was, and is a rather moral person. She's slow to anger, but when she does get set off, she can be quite harsh. She dislikes fighting unless she has to, and will work within the law even to her disadvantage.

She's generally fairly pleasent, though often makes people a bit nervous around her. She looks around constantly, and keeps watch for anything out of the ordinary around her. She tends to be trusting of most people, and generally assumes the best unless she has reason to think otherwise. In general, the only people she doesn't trust are those who have shown to be reliably chaotic. Which is actually most of the party she's involved with, it seems.

I'd like to develop her personality more, but I'm not sure how to work on it. I basicly went with a sort of pulp detective feel for her, and though the cleric class choice seems a bit odd, it shows her devotion to the church over anything else. She'll likely continue to raise her Cleric level on and off as she rises in level.

First off, I like the idea of a cleric detective... running around with the long arm of justice in the name of your god.

These are just a few ideas for you to bounce of off (and a bit twisted at that) but here they go...

If you talk with a Bible Theologian, many of them are focused not on proving anything, but rather the pursuit of the truth of their faith. In the same manner, many people try and go out and live their faith.

So, tying those two together, In the D&D universe, the gods are more real- the spiritual realm is a fact and not a mystery. Without such a distinction, the search for meaning in life will not lie nearly as much in the gods (which after all are only unfathomably powerful representatives of an idea), and instead in the application of the idea.

Thus, the Lawful Good concepts of justice and fairness do not require each adherant to be a judge- instead they merely have to arrange for everything to be ferreted out and be presented at face value. Even if the detective does render ultimate judgement (killing them), you could be obsessed with ensuring the correctness of the judgement by linking them to crimes deserving of their fate- so your character searches for those that still have evaded the responsibility for their actions.

Now at this point, it sounds like the judge in Agatha Christies "And then they were none", who was most definately Lawful Neutral (He found murderers who got away with their crime and staged the perfect crime killing them all. All of it was based on the displacement of his urge for killing combined with his insatiable want of justice.) Although this definately would give a darker feel to the character, you probably want to work on a good bent.

So, instead of focusing on the punishment, instead work for the solving of the problem (In this case the habitual wrong doer wreaking havoc in society). Instead of just hunting them down, try first to solve as many problems on the side of the victim, paying for funerals, providing food etc. And be careful that despite your motivations for hunting them down (be they darker or noble), to always be wary of remorse and the possibility of redemption, so perhaps the BBEG deserves to but his powers to repare the damage he has caused, or preventing like damage to others.

Anyway, I hope something in there you can take and apply to your character... anyway, Good Luck.
