Our DM is planning the game as a type of super-hero campaign where our characters fight crime in Sharn. The character is a 5 Rogue/ 5 Invisible Blade, I will post the character details after the story (Please tell me if I made any mistakes!). Edgar was born in the Talenta Plains to a small half ling tribe of which his father was the leader. Only 8 months after being born his entire tribe including all his brothers and sisters were slain by Boromar Clan thugs looking for protection payments (They weren't a rich tribe, and had very little to give, so the thugs just killed them). Edgar was the only survivor, another half ling tribe saw the smoke from the ruined settlement and investigated, finding the infant Edgar bundled in blood soaked blankets. This tribe raised Edgar for the next 7 years of his life. Edgar had little interest in the traditional ways of half ling tribe life. A few months after his 8th birthday Edgar ran away from home for a more exciting life. Now there really isn't anywhere to go in the talenta plains, you can see for miles in every direction. Luckily, Edgar came across a band of mercenaries, The Red Gauntlets to be specific. He fit right in to the constructed and strict atmosphere of the military troop, and was kept on as a dishwasher/cook/stable boy/whateverchoresneededtobedoneboy. A year or two after joining Edgar's skills as a fighter-of-sorts were noticed by some of the soldiers, while Edgar was observed successfully fighting off 6 half-orc laborers while wielding a half ling-sized butter knife. After a few years of training, Edgar was a member of a infiltrator squad and was being sent out on numerous missions behind enemy lines. By 20, the normal age of half ling adulthood, Edgar was already a battle-hardened veteran of the Last War. Never actually fighting in the region that was Cyre , Edgar managed to avoid the disaster that was the Day of Mourning. Edgar continued fighting for another year for The Red Gauntlets, then finally left the mercenary regiment a Lieutenant with a trail of Campaign Ribbons, and Decorations. Edgar wandered for a spell of time and visited the graves of his family, learning the names of his parents, brothers and sisters. Also, he learned his family name, Plainstrider. He then decided to visit Sharn, the City of Towers. In Sharn, spending most of his time in Clifftop, the adventurer's quarter, Edgar took jobs to keep his coin purse full and to pay the inn rates. Over time, he began to develop a reputation as a reliable dungeon diver with a aptitude for single combat. In his off-time Edgar raised even more coin by participating in duels, although illegal, the duel promoter's usually managed to find a secure location. Edgar specialized in virtually self-explanatory "First Blood" (10% HP then the fight ends) duels. Edgar was already a proficient fighter and became so adept at drawing his weapon and attacking quicker than the opponent, that Edgar usually won the duel before the other duelist had unsheathed their weapon. Edgar's size, 2' 9", very short even for a half ling, led to him become consistently under-estimated, as a result, the odds were usually in the favor of the larger duelist. After a few months it became almost impossible for Edgar to find a duel, due to his undefeated streak. So he began to disguise himself as other half ling duelists. he even went to the extent of altering his height with platform shoes and large hats. After winning a duel (the usual result), Edgar would reinvest his prize money into himself by betting on his next duel. Not surprisingly, Edgar became immensely wealthy. In his dueling career Edgar lost only one duel, to a one Thora Tavin. The duel lasted for four hours, and finally ended with a lucky dagger throw by Tavin, with the dagger just grazing the skin on Edgar's face passing to the left of his nose in a straight line and leaving a permanent scar from just below the cheekbone, over the eye socket through the eyebrow and ending just below the hairline. A one Jinger Hingbobble described the duel as being " de most intense 'speereeiience o' me life, I coodent leeve to go to de batroom for fear o' missing de end, so I just drain'd it right der in me ale pitcher." Due to the barbed nature of Thavin's blade, the scar remains to this day. The Boromar Clan noticed Edgar's superior dueling abilities decided to offer him a position within the crime organization. Completely unaware of Edgar's previous history with the clan, the Clan sent a courier. Edgar replied with a swift and brutal shanking. He then carved the names of his family members in the skin of the Courier and sent him back to the Clan Headquarters, barely alive. Not used to this sort of response, the Clan immediately sent a squad of thugs, instead of couriers, which Edgar dispatched of which the help of a few of his adventuring friends. Boromar, furious by their repeated embarrassments at the hands of Edgar decided to hire a professional take care of him, forever. Unfortunately for the Boromar Clan, virtually all assassinations passed through House Tarkanan, a rival crime organization, led by a one Thora Tavin. Tavin and Edgar retained an immense mutual respect for each other after their meeting in the duel ring. Tavin refused to send an assassin after Edgar and threatened Boromar with a price on his own head if he went to another assassin guild for a contract. Not fully trusting the Boromar Clan's shaky truce with House Tarkanan, Edgar went into hiding. He moved secretly from the Inn’s Clifftop District, informing only his closest friends of the move. Many assumed that Edgar had simply grown tired of Sharn and had moved on to a more exciting place. Although some maintained the belief that Edgar was still in Sharn, some even suspected he went to the Tyrants and had himself physically altered. In fact, Edgar moved only a short distance across the city, to Little Plains. He purchased a half ling sized safe house in one of the buildings there. He now does all he can to fight the Boromar Clan of Sharn while maintaining his hidden identity. Ignore grammar and tense errors please, I know they are there and I am rather tired due to a lack of red bull. (I know I don't have the feat requirements for invisible blade, weapon focus is dumb and I have no need for point blank or precise shot. I got feats more related to dagger fighting instead of disarming myself. | Terjon of the Blue Rose09-07-07, 12:11 AM | I'm sorry. I tried to read it I really did. But :hides: :help:Ebberron Super-Heros!:help: :hides: :gah: :gah: :gah: Not sure how you got enough gold at tenth level for a +6-8 weapon and bracers of armor +6 and a ring of protection +3 either. I am familiar with Ebberon. I'm going to give it one more attempt at a read. Hopefully I'll actually get to the character before :censored:  :headexplo  :censored: OK. Well it really not a bad attempt especially given apparent the nature of your campaign  :looloo: :twitch: I try to avoid killing off my clan stories since they tend to go over cliche. Try just getting a member of the clan who was important to him, say the shaman who first taught him dinosaur riding, instead. After that I'd add that as of right now he really has no reason to hate the Boromars. I mean they killed his family when he was too young to remember and after all his time in merc company he appears to have more of a "its just business, nothing personal" attitude. This too can be fixed up a little better by making him older when the death occurs and keeping him with his clan after it does. I'd ask what drove him from clan tribal ideals but that is going to have to wait till you revise the death itself. That may well explain it. As for his fighting off those half-orcs Id make him the only survivor of the fight but badly beaten during it. Have that be the point at which he swears he won't lose again. He seems to have no trouble with morallity what with betting on himself, etc. Does he cheat in combat? Are there rules to start with? :thinks: What the heck was a theif guild leader doing in a pit fight:confused: |
